Have an opportunity to buy a brand new DDM4v7 for $1700. I’m not a big AR guy, and I’ve heard great things about them. Part of me just wants to buy parts and build something as cheap as I can to play around with. I know quality would not be close, but would probably suit my needs. Buy once cry once or go the cheaper route?

DD's run. They are reliable, but I have yet to see one that's a tack driver.

Generally they are 1 1/2 MOA guns, even with good hand loads.

Another option is an all BCM rifle. Just buying a complete upper and lower

If you’ve got $1700 to spend there are a lot of great options, with features that the DD doesn’t offer.

I’d look at a Geissele Super Duty upper for $1200 and build a lower with a Geissele trigger.

Heck, even my not-so-pricey Ruger AR-556 MPR does better than 1-1/2 MOA:

Shoot the black rifle challenge and see if it does. It's possible.. My worst shooting AR barrel did better than 1 1/4 moa. Many tried and many failed to do better than that. Its an easy shoot and the target is supplied here. You just have to copy it off and shoot 2 groups side by side..

Yea, MOA is good, 3/4 MOA on two consecutive 5 shot groups is better. Both my LR rig and Zombie gun will do that with the Nosler 64gr BSB.

Rock River builds less expensive guns that come with a .75 MOA guarantee. My predator pursuit meets that and is reliable.

For the money, there are better options. DD doesn't even come with a decent trigger.

Diligent shopping can get ya into a DD for a couple hunnert less than 17.

At the 1700 mark, it seems most brands step up, or for just a bit more. A good, or confusing place to be.

Bluedreaux mentions a Geissele super duty upper & building a lower with their trigger. But I just found the whole Geissele gun for $1766 plus the ride. I need an upper end AR like I need a bigger waistline, but have been eyeballing the DD.

This thread got me looking, & thinking the DD maybe isn't the best choice at the price point. Although, the DD doesn't seem to be looked down upon.

This an interesting idea. Geissele makes good stuff and I've used a bunch of their triggers. I see they are making their own barrels now. Has anyone shot a rifle with a Geissele barrel?

In our office we have 5 ranging from 11.5-16. They've all been gassed very well and have shot 1.5-2MOA for 10 shots with a variety of ammo.

Thanks Blue! Sounds like they shoot pretty well. I assume the have 5.56 chambers as opposed to Wilde chambers.
