Raferman thinks it’s a joke that half my platoon was killed because the were forced to use early M16’s. Evidently he is total scum. Pass it around.
I think you should know what kind of scum he is.

It's no joke that there were serious issues with the early M16's and the ammo. A lot of men died because of those issues. They were even reported by news sources.

I had some '67 GI 5.56 ammo. It was from the first or second year of the new ball powder production. I took a relative out shooting one day some years later to show him the problem and put just 10 rounds through as AR and had him (Active duty Marine Captain at that time IIRC) inspect it. He opened the AR and looked at the bolt face and carrier and said "What is this?" referring to the caked crystalline material on the bolt face and carrier. I explained that it was calcium carbonate. The early ball powder had about ten times the amount it should have had--per NRA writeups-- and caused all sorts of functioning issues. That problem had been fixed a year or two later. That was 55 years or so ago and people just don't seem to know about it anymore.

Thanks for the heads up Bugger.

anyone our ages knows that the early M 16s were a real problem and men died in combat when their rifles quit functioning under fire.

Try and find were I laughed about U.S servicemen being killed, you won't. Bugger said modern fighters would be better served by 03 Springfield rifles, that's dumb and I called him on it.
