Bought this eons ago, sitting in the safe since and I’m getting old. Don’t know much about rimfires, any idea what something like this is worth? Thanks guys.

The forward part of the receiver is stamped U.S., below that 22 long rifle, serial number is 2590xB

Does the serial number on the bolt match that of the receiver? Is it a heavy barrel or the slight lighter standard profile? With the US stamp yours is one that CMP released years ago.

When the rifles were returned to CMP from different units, the rifles and the bolts were not shipped together. CMP tried to match bolts and rifles but many weren’t reunited. The CMP tested all of them for headspace, etc.

With it having a serial number ending in “B” it’s a 40-XB vs a 40-X. The bolt should have a rectangular section between the knob and the bolt body, a checkered oval knob and it should angle to the rear. As a 40-XB, if it’s in an original stock the bolt cut in the stock should angle back to match the sweep of the handle like a 700 as well. If it’s a 40-X the bolt knob and handle will be round and a correct stock should have a bolt cutout that is straight.

I bought several when they were released and they were one of the best deals they had.

It’s a heavy barrel, can’t find a SN on the bolt that my eyes can see. There’s a cutout on the stock on the left rear for I guess a rear match sight, bottom of stock has a long rail embedded in it, came w a hand stop. I’m trying to post pics from my IPad but I keep getting an error the size is too big.

Get the Image Size app. Very easy, and beats trying to zero in on the important parts of the image using the Edit tool in Photos.

SN should be under the bolt--you'll have to remove it from the rifle to see it.

A 40-XB that I received was in a 40-X heavy barrel stock. I don't recall seeing any CMP 40-X heavy barrel rifles, so I'm left wondering how that might have happened.

Mine is exactly like the one w the full length rail on the bottom.

Mine was like the top pictures with the short rail. Mine was a heavy barrel that is something like 28 inches long and about .97 at the muzzle. It is stamped U.S. above the serial number and no, my bolt did not match the serial number.
From what I understand, they pulled all the bolts and put them in a box. When a gun sold, they would just grab a bolt and put it in and send it. I had to put a .008 shim between the bolt half's in order to get mine to headspace and fire.
I have the barrel off of mine right now and have set it back 3 threads and I'm going to cut and freshen up the chamber.

I bought two heavy barrel versions from CMP and the rifle above on the right is a heavy barrel with pretty much a straight tapered barrel compared to the left rifle. IIRC, the US Govt issue heavy barrel versions were only made as 40-XBs. If you notice, the safeties are shaped differently with the left one being a 40-X, based on the 722 action and the right 40-XB being based on the 700 action with a “B” suffix on the serial number.

I’ve got rifles with three stock profiles and they have several different rail configurations on the bottom of their forends, some factory equipment and others added or modified later. Also with the CMP rifles, sometimes you see a 40-X action with a 40-XB stock and vice versa. The stock on the left is in the classic 40-X configuration and the stock on the right is what is usually seen on a 40-XB.

And it does this amazing shooting with quality Hunting type hollow-point ammunition.
With its higher power Nikon variable power scope any Ground Squirrel within 150 yards of me is in "dire straits"!
IF.... I were you I'd keep that rimfire 40-X.
