old 142, actually have a really nice one with original sling...but couldnt pass this one up for 65otd, no mag and its seen its better days but hopefully some kroil and 0000 will clean it up nicely, may strip and tung oil stock, looks to be a purty piece of wood on it. That's about the worst scratch on it you see in the pic, I wonder if I could just baby that area. I've seen a bunch of the black plastic foreend ones, but never bit until I ran across the wood foreends.

Nice, that stock looks like it has a lot of figure to it
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I have one of those with the wood fore-end that I received as my 10th birthday present, it came with the peep-sight and also had a Mossberg scope on it. I recently read that the wood fore-end was only on the first year production (1949). Apparently there were issues with the wood fore-end splitting when folks would let it slap against the end of the barrel so they went to the plastic fore-end. I think that the T-handle bolt knob was only used for a short time also.
I shot a truckload of gophers with mine through the years and never had an issue of any sort with it. Mine now resides with my son and will hopefully eventually go to my grandson.
You made a good buy on that one, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
Magazines are available from Haviland Sales.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

You'll have to post photos once you get it cleaned up.

Havlin is showing 10rd mag, I wonder if thats the Triple K brand.
From what I understand the T bolts were just for the first two years of manufacturing.

Definitely strip and refinish the stock, that looks like it could be spectacular.
It takes a village to raise an idiot.
