This little cartridge has taught me more about reloading than all the other chamberings I’ve worked on put together 😆. Was looking over my notes and noticed something interesting.
I’ve set my working load in my rifle with the 40 grain plastic tipped bullets (Interchangeable in between the Nosler Ballistic tip and the Hornady Vmax), 13.0 grains Lil Gun, CCI 450 primer.
My only wild card is the brass I use, and my velocity averages vary quite a bit in between brass brands. I’ve noticed up to 130 fps difference in my 10 shot strings. All velocities with a factory T/C stainless steel 21” barrel.
Here are my results
R-P 2886 W-W 2787 PPU 2756
Thoughts?

IMO Ross Seyfried said about all that needs said re the Hornet...I'd research the index of back articles at Wolfe Pub. I don't see any big mystery with different brass, with different internal volumes, and different velocities...10ths of a grain matter in the hornet.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

What kind of accuracy are you getting out of your Contender ? Just starting to work with a carbine barrel I picked up. Starting with 12.5g Lil Gun under 40 gr Vmax in new PPU brass. Nothing exciting. Got a modified case coming so I can play with seating depth.

Set on using the Lee special dies & neck sizing PPU, Winchester or Remington brass 13.0 grains Lil gun & CCI 450. I mix & match 40 grain bullets 40 Varmageddon, 40 Ballistic tip & the V- max.

While they’re on sale, may try some 35 gr. Hammer Hunter bullets in my K-Hornet.
