guy said it has had five rounds thru it gun is mint and has original box
he claims it s 25 yrs old from what I've seen it was developed in 2007 maybe I am wrong didn't do a ton of research yet

two questions what is fair market value on it
second ammo how tough to get as well as brass for it I reload all my own ammo so would rather go that route anyway

Thanks in advance

I just bought one here on the campfire.

I value the one I bought at $1500.

I was fortunate to acquire brass and dies ammo at the purchase.

What I read is there is “ sooner magic” in factory Hornaday ammunition. It’s a proprietary powder and can’t be safely duplicated.

But will the beast realize the home rolled bullet is 183 fps slower?

I dunno

I try to avoid marlins built close to the date they sold to Remington.

However if you want a JM stamp 308 mx….. it was the same year….according to google

That was in 2007

A Marlin might well feed rimless brass. I’d be tempted to see whether something like a 6.5 Creedmoor case could be opened up and reconfigured to work.

308 Marlin was formed using 307 Winchester as the parent case. Many places still sell 307 Win brass.

I have a 22" 308 MX rifle.
My rifle is an early one and is the most accurate, "out of the box," tubular magazinerifle I have ever encountered.
With any carefully loaded ammunition or factory loads you can set down at the bench and say: "Watch This."
Three shot groups inside a one inch circle are not difficult. Five shot groups are a different story, the rifle will do it but your bench technique had better right for each shot. Use a goodie black rectangle target, aim for a corner and align you your crosshairs on the edges of the rectangle.

When the rifle came out there was no ammunition and no load data. We were regularly overloadingthe cartridge with no difficulty until the first fax loading pages came out from Hornady. Then we reduced our loads to meet the Hornady velocities.

The rifle has a careful.y fitted verticle locking bolt which fits the recess in the sliding bolt closely. It also has nylon slide strips under the forend.

The brass is easy to make from .308 Winchester but I had to ream the inside of the necks.
.307 Winchester and .444 Marlin brass requires less labor.
Here is a thread from back then on making brass.
I will test it to see if it works. I am on a tablet so it is hard for me to work with links.
