Looking for anyone that had loaded berry's plated bullets in the 444 at "normal" speeds . Can it be done or do I need to stick with a jacketed/ gas checked bullet ? I'm hoping the plating will act as a gas check . If it won't I'll most likely stick to a gas checked 320rnfp.

I haven't done it.

I prefer a HEAVY crimp on my 444 loads, and heavily crimping thinly plated bullets has a tendency to cut the plating. And for plinking loads, I just use powder coated 200 and 240gr bullets, sized at .432", and Unique.

If you give the Berry bullets a try, please report on your results.

To be perfectly honest , I had a marlin years ago . My current is a single shot. I won't have to crimp heavy , just more worried about fouling and such. I've only found 240's in the berry's though , wish there was a 300 or bigger !

Do it! Buy those Berrys. They've shot well for me in a few 44 Mag rifles.

Found a 300 grain flat nose coated hammer ! If that doesn't do it , nothing will !

I think Berry’s recommends under 1500fps. Check out Hawk bullets for jacketed bullets for the 444.

I have killed a lot of deer with my Marlin 444P. Using my cast 310 gr bullet with gas check. It crono's out of my rifles at an average of 1908 FPS. It will shoot through a deer from any angle.

I’ve killed hundreds of animals with the 444 and I don’t think any critter walking really warrants anything above the 2 Hornady factory loadings.
