And I can't decide what I want. For squirrels/rabbits. I know I'm overthinking it. I'd like the FOV of a 2x on the bottom, and it must be 1" tube and I'd prefer a 30-36mm obj. I think I need AO/SF, but is it really necessary? I know the answer, no, but is it significantly helpful?

Any 3-9x40 will work on them and look just fine, realistically there is so little noticable difference between 2x and 3x on the bottom end that it is not worth worrying about. There are some 2-7x scopes out there but I can't think of any that have AO or Side Focus.

As far as the AO - if you are using it for a hunting scope then it absolutely is not necessary, if you are using it for target shooting then it is good to have to reduce parallax. Consider this - have often in a hunting situation do you have the time to fiddle around setting the AO to the "guessed" at yardage.
A perfect example of this is a good friend of mine that I have seen miss numerous coyotes because he is busy adjusting his AO or magnification setting and the coyote is usually gone by the time he gets ready to shoot.

I have had one of these for a bit and am pleased with it, enough so I have another on the way at the sale price.

Natchez has Burris drop time 22lr BDC reticle scopes for a $100. Looks pretty nice and plan to order one myself pretty soon. Or the sightron looks like a good one too.

You better ask Form what has passed the drop test. Your once in a lifetime squirrel hunt could depend on it.

I adjusted the parallax on my old Leupold VX1 3-9X
Sits on my CZ455
50 yards and target is in focus at 9X.
Without change 50 yards was 6x max and 25 yards was 4x. That just to see clearly.

ChrisAU: I have a Leupold 6x18 variable scope with A/O on my CZ 457 heavy barrel in 22 Magnum - what a great performing rig it is for small game and Varmints.
I greatly prefer scopes with A/O features - especially on my rimfires.

P.S.: What caliber is yours and what are you going to do with it?
Best of luck with whichever scope you choose

This is my 2nd 457, both are 22LR. My first one is my competition rifle, the VPT with the Manners stock which I added an Area 419 Lilja barrel, Timney trigger, ARCA rail, and a pile of other stuff. It has a new 5-30x56 Bushnell Match Pro ED on it now, here it is with a previous scope at a completion, a Meopta 4.5-27x50.

I like the action in it so much it inspired me to get this new one, an American with walnut stock. It’s threaded so I can use my SilencerCo sparrow on it shooting subs for squirrel and rabbits. I believe the Leupold 2-7x33 will be just fine on it.

I had a 4 x 16 Tasco on top of my 452 in 22 LR for quite a while...

it was good for consistently head shooting sage rats to 125 yds with no problems...

Its taken quite a few of those little rats with a fence post as a rest.

Chances are you will shoot this rifle more than any other you own. You just spent $500 for a .22, get a good scope to go with it. AO is a must on rimfires scopes for me. My 457 has a Burris Signature 3-15x44 on it. Great scope for my use.
