New to shotgun reloading so please be patient.
Just acquired an ancient Lee Loader for 2.5 inch 410. This is old, no plastic dippers, no styrfoam inside, no pictures of shotgun or rifle shells on top of the box. Has hard cardboard inside with appropriate holes for the tools. No instructions or reloading data. I use a 410 for early season blue grouse in the west when they are dumb as a box of rocks.
Questions:
Will this tool star crimp new plastic casing or is a roll crimp my only option? Where can I find low pressure reloading data? How old is this thing?
Thanks and apologies to all the grouse hunting purists out there.

All Lee Shotgun loaders I have owned/seen were set up for star crimps. Roll crimp takes a special tool.

Roll crimp as stated above take a special tool. I have not seen a Lee Loader with this tool (does not mean they don't make it, I just have not seen it)
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I started loading 410 in the 70's with a Lee Loader because I was going through 2 to 3 hundred a month. I remember the cost was 9 dollars and some odd cents. It came with a spacer so you could do 2 1/2 or 3 inch. It came with a plastic crimp starter for either the 6 or 8 can't remember which, then I purchased another one so I could do both a 6 and 8 star crimp. I loaded thousands with that set of tools. In the 1990's I was gifted a old used mec 600 not being used anymore. After a little fiddling with the Mec its much much easier loading than the Lee. These days everything about the 410 is sky high in cost but the little guys are fun loading for and shooting.

if they are new cases you will need to skive the case mouths before star crimping

I REALLY wish somebody would make the Lee Loader in 3" again! I haven't been able to find one used that was at what I considered a reasonable price.
Some nice man did leave 31 .444 Marlin cases on a shooting bench at my local range, and I have made some ".410" shells out of them, but I'd prefer the real thing and it sure would be quicker to load! (Santa Claus with an empty wallet and a blue shoulder???).
Was Mike Armstrong. Got logged off; couldn't log back on. RE-registered my old call sign, Mesa. FNG. Again. Mike Armstrong

I should have "tennis elbow" from all the brass I've hammered into a LeeLoader resizing die! LOL! .41 Rem Mag .22 Hornet .270 Win
ANY 8 to 10 year old that is interested in hunting/shooting should be gifted a LeeLoader and accompanying goods to make their own ammunition. They will: 1) learn to shoot their chosen arm VERY well OR 2) learn that you don't go "pine cone hunting" for kicks and giggles!
