That’s a cool story. Read that about once a year. Talk about a big day for the whole family.

South Texas near Cotulla, Texas, with my Montana Rifle Company .308 and Barnes TTSX 130 @ 3100 fps.

G2’s shorter than G3’s are a common and distinctive characteristic for the deer in the area.

Those are dandy bucks!

Haverluk, what part of Va was the buck taken? I lived in Stafford since around 2008 and man, I hunted around Stafford and also down in Caroline County and some of those bucks I saw come out of the woods were just hammers!

I too lived in Stafford and Prince William Co on and off since 2003. Took some great bucks on Quantico and some great bucks in Stafford, Prince Willam, Spotsylvania and Fauquier Counties. Never hunted Caroline Co. My buddy shot this buck in Caroline Co.

No kidding! That is darned cool. I know some of the horns that came out of those woods would make folks eyes cross since they barely weighed but 150lbs most of the time, but man they packed on some horn.

Beretzs, I know what you mean on the body size.

Back in 2005 I took a high 140/ low 150 class 8 point off mainside Quantico that hung at 127 pounds field dressed…

Takes all six tags to get that freezer nice and full for the year.

You aren't kidding. There was a few years I bought the 5 extra bonus tags.

That's a great buck. I know from creeping around Quantico they had some beasts walking around.

Kicking this thread up in memory of the OP, BobinNH and our other hunters who are home from their last hunt. Rest in peace my friends.

South Texas north of Laredo.

This year brought good rain to this arid thorn brush country and the deer were in great condition.

Both were at least seven years old, taken with .308 Win and Barnes TTSX 130's late in the season while the rut was on.

My wife with her deer.
