I know there is an optics section but thought I would rely on the 458 brain trust.
A friend has a CZ 416 which he loves and shoots often. He has had a Leupold Vari X lll 1.5 x 5 fail for the second time. He has it mounted in Alaska Arms QD rings. The Tech at Leupold questioned the rings and stated that the first time he sent it back they rebuilt the scope. My friend shoots a good deal and has taken deer, hogs, buffalo rang steel at 230yds and 318yds.
He loves the rifle but no longer trusts the scope. Recommendations for a scope, comments on the Alaska Arms mounts welcomed.
This rifle has the European style stock and is a joy to shoot. I have fired it both off hand and from a bench and it is quite accurate.

I use the 30mm Alaska Arms rings on many Rugers in 223 thorough 416. I have yet to have any type of ring / mount related issue.
I also have them for a CZ 458 Lott. Though,not presently mounted.

If the mount/rings are installed properly, the scope itself would be what I suspect as the issue. I am curious why Leupold would even suspect the rings themselves. Regardless of the manufacturer.

Personally, I suspect that particular, individual specimen of scope is not going to hang with the recoil.

I too believe it's the scope, regardless of price or name. Rings and mounts make little sense. I've a Nikon 2 - 7x32 that was new about five years ago on my Ruger No.1 in .45-70 LT (long throat) that generated up to 72 ft-lbs of recoil. When that rifle was traded (after two decades of owneship) on my current Ruger No 1H in .458 WM in 2018, that scope went onto the .458. It has taken a pounding on both rifles and works like new in 1" rings. Yet, a few other scopes gave up after a few shots on magnum rifles while others in the same price range have just kept on working without a hitch - and all were 1" tubes. I had one recent acquisition on my new .35 Whelen that turned the reticule 30* clockwise after less that 20 shots!

I have physically bent and twisted scope tubes during rifle testing and had the scope still shoot true and seen others fizzle in a few rounds indicating we can get variable results with no hard an fast rules.

If I had to place a bet on it though, I noted larger scopes with 30mm tubes had a clear and perfect run with me compared to 1" tubes on recoil levels up to .460 Weatherby and full power loads.
