Seems like some people don't like vests and prefer bags, or maybe just the cargo pockets on their jackets and pants. I have to say, in May we can have some very hot days and a vest can be miserable.

I've been looking at bags. Can't seem to find anything on Miss Glenda bags. Not sure if she still makes them or not. Haven't seen anything anywhere else that appeals to me.

I was at Green Top Hunt and Fish in Richmond, Va yesterday. I was going through their waterfowling section and found this Avery Waterfowl Equipment bag that should serve well as a turkey hunting bag. Plenty of room in it for box calls, pot calls, wallet, keys, pruning shears. Seems to be me very well made and has a waterproof zippered insert bag. Lots of ammo storage. Stap has a pad and is expandable enough that I can sling it across my chest and it rides on my hip. Looking forward to giving it a whirl.

I may need to commission Yoder and his partner to make a leather insert for it with box and pot call compartments.

I believe those are called a murse! Lol! Looks handy and very similar to a possibles bag for muzzleloading.

It needs some compartments inside. It's got strips of velcro that hold the inner bag in. If I take that out, I can use padded camera bag dividers that have velcro on them to create pockets for box calls and other things.

my hunting buddy has one simular that he uses. I think it is a 2 box duck hunting blind bag or something like that

I have used a similar waterfowl blind bag that has doubled as my turkey hunting bag for at least 15 years. The waterproof lining on the inside has some small rips in it but it still serves the purpose. I just like my bag with everything in it sitting next to my hip within easy reach when I’m sitting on the ground. Some people make fun of them but to me it’s very functional so who cares.

It looks like that will work well for you. I use something similar to tote around my electronic predator calling set up.
For turkeys I still use an old ragged cheapo vest that I got back when I first started out.

Looks like a nice bag. I just got a Glenda Green Satchel. She can be found on Facebook. Awesome lady and product. I think the satchel will be much better than a vest.

I have the same bag that I use quite a bit on turkey hunts. Used it yesterday for duck hunting. I never could like a vest. The vest with the kickstand back rest looks neat. It’s often too hot here in Arkansas for a vest plus the 127lbs of junk I’d stuff in it.

The shoulder bag is ideal. It’ll hold a couple friction calls, sandwich and snacks, few shells, headlamp, water bottle, face mask and gloves. Attach a comfy cushion and haul ass.

I got away from a vest years ago because it was just an enabler for me to carry way too much junk. Went to a small belt pack and haven't looked back once.

Only thought of going back to a vest would be on a hunt where I may have to carry a bird a really long way out.

I'm trying to decide between the vest or my little chair and a satchel. The later is winning and I wish I had a better bag...

This thread is inspiring me to look at an upgrade.

I carry my stuff in a dark green BWCA food barrel bag and thats where my bird goes.

What's the lightest way to carry a bird if you don't want to carry the flea covered thing on your shoulder?

I do wear a vest in the early part of the year when temps a cooler, but as soon as it warms up, I go to a belt pack thing with a seat.

I have a big, bright, orange colored mesh bag with a shoulder strap on it for hauling out a bird I get. Have had it for so long, I no longer remember where I got it.

Tom Teaser Quick Sack what I use.....had one for several years. Has several compartments for all your calls, made for turkey hunters. They at several places just google it. I use mine also deer hunting also....range finder & binos, shells, etc.

I've been using a messenger bag for over 20 years. The vest I was using previously was just weighing me down too much.

The latest iteration is what's called a "Tactical Bag." I've been carrying it since 2017.



I use the bottle holder to carry my box call. I have a foam pad clipped to it so my butt stays dry.

The nice thing about a rig like this is that I can shed it when I get somewhere.

I have a 5:11 sling pack I use for small game hunting. It carries everything I need when I'm in the woods for the day and don't need a lot of stuff. But if it gets too heavy, the strap rides up against my neck. So I use a 5:11 day pack for deer hunting. It's got well organized pockets and if I have to stuff pruning sheers, a big game knife, and bone saw into it, along with a poncho or other stuff, it's still comfortable to wear. But neither seem good for turkey hunting. The man-purse concept seems better since it carries like, as Dean said, a possible bag, and you don't have to take it off to get into it. I wish this one had more organized pockets, but it will still work, I think.

Box calls and bigger pot calls are the nemesis of a good turkey Murse. Tough to find one with pockets that hold box calls well.

I don't think they get fleas. I've never found fleas or lice on a bird.

You can always carry a clear lawn bag to use to carry it, though.

I don't know what little bugs I've seen while cleaning birds, but my father in law called them flea whele we were cleaning my first bird we killed together.
I see a lot on ducks too.

I like the plastic bag idea other than it holds heat in. I'm going to look for a mesh bag or make a turkey strap or sling bag.

I carried that Avery bag all day yesterday. I like it, but its not going to work as a turkey hunting bag. The top flap is plain too heavy with ammo. If I put pot calls in those pouches on the inside, its going to be that much heavier. However, it is very comfortable to carry. It will make a great carry bag while hunting small game. But for turkey, not so much. Back to a vest, I guess.

I ordered one of those Tom Teaser bags in Mossy Oak Bottmland. Got the last one for sale on their Amazon site.

Please post a side by side picture of them so I can decide if I should buy one, use what I have... Or buy the avery version.

I just picked this up from my buddy Rudy for a 54cal I recently acquired. But for turkey hunting, I only use mouth calls, so plenty big. Double duty! Lol!

I will. I already decided I'm not going to use my new Avery bag for turkey hunting. The flap gets too danged heavy with shells and other stuff in it. It won't be easy to take a call out or put it back in very easily or quickly. The Avery bag I got will make a dandy small game bag, though. It carries everything I want for small game, and I have easy access to shells. It's also comfortable to carry.

I have been watching this thread from the start and kicking around the idea of a bag over a vest. Glocks which of these do you have, and what does are the thoughts on the other ones I will post a link to?

The review that the shells fall out is BS. They're held tightly enough that doesn't happen. I used mine packed with 20 gauge shells. Never had a shell dump flipping the flap over. Either that review is pure BS. Or the guy was using .410 shells.

The bag in the first link is essentially the same bag as what I have sans the shell holders. The bag in the 3rd link is kinda like a six pack cooler. Seemed kind wide to carry around. The store where I got mine also had those two also, so I had a chance to look at them. That store didn't have the messenger bags you linked to so I can't speak to those.

Something in the back of my mind says I may have a messenger bag somewhere. I will have to do a little digging and see if I can find it or not.

Yep, or trying to get in a SxS and the stupid thing won't let you sit.

A fanny pack, or belt pack is more comfortable if worn on a hip or in front.

I travel pretty light turkey hunting and have been using a Hill People chest pack the last few years. I only use mouth calls, no box calls.

Well guys... I wound up in cabelas Friday night and was admiring a chair that had side pockets for calls, a back pack straps and even a good size patch of blind cloth to drape over you that was tethered to a pocket behind the seat. I thought... that's cool... and then I remembered my deer hunting buddy who used to work at cabela's got me on on discount and I wasn't sure if it had all the do-dads.

Well I found it and it does.

So I'm going to use that seat with ether my messenger bag or sling harness bag and carry my decoy in a separate bag.

A messenger bag is what I've been carrying for years.

If you dig around on Amazon and Ebay, you should be able to find one for less than $45.

Smith and Wesson has a bugout bag almost like the one posted above, I picked one up for about 20 bucks off ebay.

Well, I got my Tom Teaser bag. It didn't come in Mossy Oak Bottomland that I ordered. It came in Mossy Oak Greenleaf. It seems okay. It's pretty much just a call bag, with some shell and striker loops. It's made out of the same kind of material as, say, hunting pants. The strap is adjustable and quite long when fully extended, so I can wear it so the top of it is wear my belt is. Seems like it is as advertized. It doesn't have any zippered pockets in it. Except for the main flap that covers it all, all the pockets are unsecured. One thing I like about my turkey vests are zippered pockets I can put my car keys and wallet in. I don't like carrying those in my pants when I hunt. So I put them in zippered pockets to secure them. Back to figuring out how to secure them.

I'll post some pics later. Right now, I'm kind of ambivalent about it. Maybe I'll end up loving it. I'm used to high tech materials and silent zippers. This is none of that. It's just a stitched fabric bag. It may be just the ticket.

I like a zipped pocket after having a cell phone slip out of a interior vest pocket and down into the lake.

I may take it to an alterations shop and have a zipper or two installed. I need to load it up and see what needs to stay open and what I can put zippers on.

I don't think there are any pockets big enough to install zippers on. So this is just going to be a call and shell carrier.

Quality seems fine. It's a thick cotton twill fabric. I did order it in Mossy Oak Bottomland but got it in old school Mossy Oak Greenleaf. Not a big deal. I also didn't get the thermacell holder it was supposed to come with.

Otherwise, it seems fine as a call and shell carrier. Maybe a a little bit of cargo besides that. Here's the pic I promised.

Yeah, I'm not entirely satisfied with it. It's okay. But I'm glad I didn't spend more on it.

For warm weather I bought an Alps Long Spur vest - the version without the seat. I added my own seat to it. It's really just a webgear vest with a fanny pack and front call cases. I used it this fall over a heavy coat. I used it last sring, in May, when it was hot. It's much lighter than my other full turkey vests. I'll probably just stick with it. I can get water, snacks and all y calls in it, and still have room to zip up my pohone, wallet and keys.

I do. On the vest above, the seat you see didn't come with the vest. I bought it at Walmart and just strap it on and let it hang. I don't really mind letting the seat hang behind my legs.

I have a Mossy Oak Longbeard Elite, vest, too. It has a seat that is held up by a couple of straps and clips. It's not the easiest vest to drop the seat on while I'm wearing it, but its doable. Once I'm in the woods and its down, it stays down till I'm done hunting. I like this because the sides are open and it vents well in hot weather.

The best designed vest I have, or have ever had, is the Will Primos Signature vest. The seat is held up with a long, strong magnet. It's easy to put up and down while I've got the vest on, and the magnet is strong enough that it has never been knocked down going through brush. It's an outstanding, albeit expensive, vest.
