Crumble up some crispy bacon in it. How grampaw used to do it, pretty good.
Myself honey and butter are good enough.

Whatever you said...everyone knows you are a lying jerk. That's a bold assertion. Point out where you think I lied. Well?

I use the steel cut version. Seems to stay with me longer, but takes longer to cook .
I am not big fan of it. Back in the 50's, in the coal mine areas of SW PA ,we got USDA surplus food. Some of it was oatmeal and bunches of it. My mother found a recipe for chocolate, oatmeal no bake cookies and she made them by the dozens Stored them in big potato chip cans ( I think they were Charlie Chip can). If we said we were hungry and that happened a lot, we got those rock hard oat meal cookies.
The surplus food also came with 10 pond sacks of flour, sugar, big cardboard cans of chocolate, powder eggs, powdered milk, canned meat, 5# blocks of cheese and big bags of potates. None of this crap of today of here is card,go buy what you wanted
If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

Might it once or twice a year if I get a strange craving for it. Then I will run up the road and get one of those variety boxes of the instant flavored stuff. Eat 5 6 9 packs of it with some raisins thrown in.
Bout it.

Laura caps the fig preserves with a bourbon or brandy... Spiced rum on the kiwi preserves...
Good on oatmeal...
Crunchy peanut butter added sometimes.
--------------------------
Smoked fish or country ham also... but not that often.
If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.

Wife makes it a lot more often than I would, but it is always steel-cut in the slow cooker overnight. I put some honey and either raisins or craisins on it. The Irish have their steel-cut with buttermilk, and I have it that way when I have buttermilk on hand.
It doesn't seem to stick with me for long. In an hour, I'm hungry again.

Five minute, never the Quick, oats...raw sugar, 1/2&1/2, sometimes with raisins. Steel Cut oats are good, too.
Did you know 1/2&1/2 used to be called cereal milk?
