But I actually got a call through to Ithaca Gun today. Seems like about the time that covid shut things down they let all telephone communication be answered by a recording.

Regardless, they answered today, and I just got off the line with Ithaca's Patrick, and he explained that they have no plans to stop building the 28 ga., but that they have both manpower and supply chain issues. He assured me that they have every intention of it returning to production, but they cannot promise any particular time frame.
They are maintaining a waiting list and you can get on it without making a payment. Seems that they do not fear making a gun that won't sell.

The waiting list was 90 deep when i called. 91 deep when I hung up...

Patrick is a CS king. One of the best gun folk I've ever talked to.

Glad to hear it. I'm really wanting a 20 gauge and was told the same thing back in the September/October time frame, I think.

I don't think they make guns that don't sell. I think just about every gun they make sells.

This is good to know.

I bought a 28 gauge on close out at Cabelas a few years back. I remember it being a "steal" and think I paid around $600. They had 5-6 in stock. I really wish I hadn't sold that gun. Back in pre-Bass Pro days, there were some real deals on quality guns at Cabelas. I miss those times!

I don't have a 28 gauge and would like to order another if they are making any.

I sure like to handle a model 37 in 28 ga. I bought one of their 16 ga. It was quite heavy. Sold it.

In the early 2000's they announced a survey on what a guy wanted to see from Ithaca and I participated. Said a clone of the early 50's m37 with a vent rib, 26" with screw in chokes, corn cob grooved forend and old style pattern recoil pad in 16 ga. Imagine my surprise a few months later when they announced a limited run of what I asked for as I recall they did 300 of them .I reserved # 269 and paid the deposit,5 months later got email to ship to my ffl and a bill for the remainder apprx $550. All good to to go shot some trap and skeet with it, function was fine. Took it sharptail hunting over my dogs killed some birds with the ic and mod choke tubes which Ithaca used Colonial tubes and they were thin wall marked not for steel shot use. I DIDN'T BUY it to hunt ducks with but for upland still that was an irritating point ,so was the fact that it weighed more than my m870 20 ga express, last but not the least was the shape of the pistol grip not like the 50's guns. At the end of the season I was at the local gun shop and in the used rack was an old original m37 R 28" solid rib 16 ga dirty but in good working order. Some kid inherited it from grandpa and traded it for mossberg ulti mag plus difference. Thank God the younger generations still have to learn everything the hard way. I picked up that 37R for 195 bucks and laughed all the way home. It weighed less than the new 37 limited run gun and handled like a dream I was hoping for when I signed up for the limited run gun. That new one went down the road just breaking even on it...mb

Everything I've seen commented on the new ones is the 28 guage is where you want to be due to weight on the others.

I have early 50's versions in 16 and 20 guage. The 16 weighs 6 lbs 1 oz, and the 20 weighs an even 6 lbs. I've heard the new ones weigh a full pound heavier.

An auction this weekend locally has an early 50's 16 on the sale bill. Tempted to see what it goes for, guessing a lot more than I want to give.

I called a few days ago after seeing this post. They took my request down for a 28ga. (26", grade 1 wood, English stock)

He (Patrick?) told me the list was quite long but they plan to fulfill the orders.
