They also will rise with time just like mausers Mosin sks and all things have. $400 at this time is really a decent cost for something like an 1911 that works.

This is not really the case, in the plating process nickel is plated on and chrome is plated on top of the nickel and is harder, yes it does change the color but to say "Nickel is a bit more rust resistant" is a contradiction in terms

Collectables are a different story all together. I have several collectables in my total collection of 74 1911's. Colt Black Army is my favorite.
