It's my favorite 22-250 powder in conjunction with a 55 gr. Ballistic Tip. As previously mentioned, it's not something for getting maximum velocity. I could be getting a couple hundred more fps with other powders but 4320 is so darn accurate and consistent that I keep using it. In my varminting experience with it I don't think a couple hundred fps ever made a bit of difference to any of the woodchucks that "participated" in some of my load development testing projects.

I use it for my .350 Rem Mag Model 7 KS. I use 58grs of it with Nosler 225gr Partitions and CCI 250 primers and C.O.L. of 2.825". I get 1" to 1 1/4" 100 yd 3 shot groups. Never measured velocity but must be around 2500fps out of the 20" barrel of this rifle. I consider it a go to powder for most .35 calibers.

I used 53 grs of it with a 250 gr Speer in my 35 Whelen to take a nice 11 pt buck Saturday morning. 55 grs actually shoots a little tighter but at close range the deer don't appreciate the extra accuracy anyway. wink
I bet it would work well in the 220 Swift although I haven't tried it yet.
My old shooting partner used it in his 308 target loads years ago.

I used it in loading for a triple duece .222 rem with 50-52gr bullets. I really liked the powder and it gave very good accuracy.

I use the same load with Swift 225gr in a .350 Rem Mag 673 Gude Gun. Great load that accounted for a nice black bear last year. Am working on a 35 Whelen load with the same powder.

Doc,

Jack O'Connor used 45 grains of this powder with both 140 grain Sierra flat base (now Pro-Hunter) and Nosler Partition bullets in his 7x57 rifles. He hunted both here and in Africa with this load. 4320 was an excellent powder then and, in my opinion, it still is. I have used it to load for the .243 Win., .250 Sav., 7x57, ,308 Win., .30-06, and .338-06, and it has always performed well as long as I did not push for highest possible velocities. It was what I used for my best loads in the .338-06, and I still use it today to load for the .250 Sav. and .30-06.

If my memory serves me correctly, this powder was dropped from the IMR line in about 1980. I thought I was really lucky to find an 8# keg before it vanished from dealers shelves; however, I needn't have worried because it was brought back in a year or two because of user demand. Evidently, there were, and are, a good number of us who find this propellant GOOD FOR excellent handloads!

IMR 4320 is a good powder but since Hodgdon bought them out try to find a load for it that isn't in one of your manuals. They have more or less gutted the IMR on line loading manual. Looks like they really bought them out just to let that competition die. But time will tell. All of the Weatherby data that was on the old IMR site is gone? Only some of the rest of it remains and a lot of that information has been down loaded as in reduced load wise?

Back in the 70's 4320 was the "go to" powder for 52 grain Silver Match bullets in the 22-250. 36.5 grains of the stuff burned as clean as any, and if all 10 were not under 0.35 MOA, you messed up.

It may be old school but I have lots of very good ways to burn 4320 at $15 a pound. Nice deal!

I knew there was a reason I have 2# on hand so I checked my load book. It looks like it's one of my better .22-250 load powders.

I used to use in a 22-250 and a 220 Swift years ago. Must have used a lot of it because I have a bunch of notes where I generally used the 60 gr. Hornady on coyotes in those two rifles.

That is my recipe in my BLR. Very accurate. I also use the partitions in the same weight-but it isnt as accurate as the sierra loads.

60 grains and a 225 grain bullet in 35 Whelan. 43 grains in a 300 Savage 150 or 165 grain bullets.

Soo 55.0 grs. of 4320 is a top load using the 250 grain bullet and 60 grs. works with the 225 grain bullets. All I need now is a top listed load for 200 grain bullets and I'll have somewhere to start with my 35 Whelen. Anyone have a spread for the 358 Winchester? I'll be using 200 and 250 grain bullets in it.
