Very nice rifle and a cool chambering as well! I can say I’ve never seen one at a flea market.

Nope! It's in Florida, just south of Homosassa, which is just south of Crystal River....

Chassahowitzka --- it means 'the pumpkin hanging place'

Read somewhere that there were not many No. 1s chambered in 338 Federal.......... a bit of a rarity!

If I were a betting man, I'd say there was a chance that that #1 started life as something other than a 338 Federal. I'd guess it was a re-bore, judging from the caliber engraving in what appears to be a mill cut. I could be wrong, but that engraving in the mill cut looks eerily like the engraving I've had done on a few re-bores I've had done.

My father-in-law pulled the "got any guns" trick at a garage sale once. It totally surprised me, but I went home with a new to me rifle..a pump 760 in 35 Remington.

Nice. Flea markets around me don't have guns or ammo. Accessories naybe, but that's it. Pawn shops here don't do guns either.

ALWAYS ask...

They and the crowd will almost always look at you like you just gut-shot the dog, but every once in a while it pays off......

Water it down to "Got any old hunting or fishing equipment?" Any positive response gets followed up with "Any guns you want to get rid of?"

Exactly. I have a Browning 78 that was re-bored from 22-250 to 250 Savage. The caliber designation is the same.
