Seem to remember reading a good while back that they had some issues with them.
Handled one recently chambered in .338 mag and thought it was pretty nice. Wouldn't be my choice in caliber but......
Anyone have any personal experience with one?

Rookie, I've owned several.

7x57, 270, 280, 7Rem Mag. May have been a 06 in there somewhere too.

Never had an issue.

My 82 S 22 Hornet had headspace issues. Too long.

I've seen more reports of cracked stocks than anything else.

Contact Mountain_Boomer here (not sure of exact handle format, might be Mtn)............he worked in their shop in OR.

My lovely .338, I think it was called a Super America, didn’t feed well and shot poorly. Cost what was a lot of money for me at the time. Dumped it at a loss and would never buy another.

I’ve owned a Model 89 BGR Super America .270 for close to thirty years. It’s one of my favorite rifles, very accurate with factory loads, feeds well, good trigger, beautiful wood and comes up like a fine shotgun. I’ve killed a lot of game with it over the years.

MontanaMan, thanks. Can't seem to find him but I'm not the best at using this sites search features but I'll keep trying.

Speaking of which, today I finally connected with the Mod 89 BGR 7RM Super America I purchased a few months ago... I'll follow up here with some pics - I done well! A near perfect example on the cosmetics. For 33 years out of the factory it appears as new, possibly unfired. Well shaped, checkered and well finished.

For the interested there's this:

I don't believe you can universally say with certainty as a whole regarding the 89 BGRs, they're all unique... There were definitely issues with some KoO 82, 84, and 89s...

My new to me, 32-33 year old Kimber of Oregon Model 89 BGR 7mm Remington Magnum - Super America. It's a darn fine example IMO...

Confirmed that the dovetails are 11mm flat top. I couldn't locate the 30mm Talleys I have so started looking around. Found Sportsmatch has Medium 30mm TO35C and Medium 1" TO4C available from Airguns of Arizona for $37 and $31. Not as pretty as original Kimber rings, just workable. This Sightron was one a few scopes laying around with long-enough mounting space to fit. A Leupold VX-R 3-9x40 didn't. I hope to find a gloss 6x42 for it.

Details of the shaping/finish sanding, checkering, and finish - both metal and wood are excellent, as they're supposed to be. I can spot a couple of places on the stock contours to comment upon, but that doesn't really matter tonight. I'm thrilled with it. Colton marked so this was produced between mid-1990 and Fall 1991. May have had a hand on it.... Just decent walnut.

I may post more upon disassembly and/or shooting...

Boomer,

You may remember a conversation we had about Kimbers & the one I have that had a stock problem a while back.................

Your wood looks similar to mine, maybe a little better than mine, also a Colton gun, built in 1991. Mine's never been fired, might have been at the factory.

I used Conetrol bases & rings on my dovetails, & at the time a B&L scope. I took it off when I repaired the stock & I hope (should) I still have them around somewhere. They make a pretty good looking mount.

I also used lots of Conetrols & Buehlers (now out of business) on Sako dovetails as well..............not sure if Conetrol still makes a version for the Kimbers since the old guy that owned it has died & I'm not sure who is running the business now.

Cool. Thanks for posting.

More mount options available for the Classics than the Supers seems reasonable...

Is your extractor jeweled?

I see zero evidence my 7mag has been used at all, not a mark on it. They were fired at the factory although I don't recollect the details. IIRC 82s we're shipped with a test target... I'm grateful for the opportunity to own my BGRs after all these years! It was a huge deal for us, ie bringing them into regular production, along with the modifications and refinements of the entire product line occurring simultaneously. 👍

I should have asked, jeweled from the factory?

Enjoy your rifle!
