I'm sure if that had happened during the Trump administration it would have been kept a secret, because if the left found out about it they would have initiated impeachment proceedings accusing Trump of Chinese collusion, dereliction of duty, and generally just being a threat to both our national security and our democracy. Then they would have accused him of accepting something from China for this in violation of the Emoluments clause and demanded that he face criminal charges. Or, if a Chinese balloon had invaded our air space and Trump had it shot down, he would have been accused of starting a war with China by being a reckless, violent, unhinged lunatic who must be immediately removed from office as prescribed by the 25th (?) amendment. Regardless of whatever the facts may be, you can always bet that whatever Trump did or didn't do will be dangerous, traitorous, and criminal. But don't take my word for it, just ask almost any high ranking democrat.
