Your thoughts on the following …




Tons of options out there nowadays, I generally use Leupold or Talleys, Don’t know that I prefer one over the other,

Any other options out there I should consider?

Leupold Detacho?

Heavy and solid.

Permanent, Non quick release, if that’s what your asking.

Warnes makes QR and permanent, Leupold Detachos are all QR.

The set I posted above is steel, could go Aluminum but we can afford a few extra oz’s here,

But I’m not against Aluminum either.

I don't mind aluminum as well with decent rings. A 308 won't be a big kicker and that 2.5x8 is fairly light.

Lows may be a bit tight. I have medium Burris rings on Warne bases with a 1.6" eyepiece. With a BC cap, the bolt handle passes with a tiny amount of clearance.

Or, Aluminum Backcountry’s, Have not been able to actual weights anywhere,

Stick some talleys on it. I put some on an ultralight 30-06 and they held for years.

I like Talley bases and split rings.

I liked the Vortex pro rings when they were something like $50-$60. They seem to have gone up quite a bit though.

Arken, Hawke, and several others sell similar for cheaper now.

I’ve bought some cheap rings on Amazon. Couple sets have worked fine. One set was terrible. The metal was so soft it pulled the threads with hardly any effort. Took the ring cap of and was able to bend and tear it. Lol. Bad batch or just cheap pot metal. I believe those were Sun Optics. Definitely wouldn’t buy those again.

Burris xt 2 piece bases.

If the scope had the ability to dial I would opt the Hawkins Hybrid 1 piece with their 25 moa built in.

I have 1 scope with the Leupold Back Country vertical split rings. It makes for a very solid scope mount. I'm thinking I need to do a couple more scopes that way. Warne makes a vertical split ring as well. I have one rifle with the Warne aluminum rings also.

The assumption is he answered your question about the ones you posted a pic of. Those are damn heavy and solid. I run them on my lightweight 338wm. If I were you, I'd check out the one piece Leupold back country. They are like talley lighteweights, but slightly different and made by Leupold. It seems like you are wanting Leupold. Do they need to be QRW/PRW though?? Leupold also makes a lighter ring than the PRW, it is also called the back country. They are made of 7075 aircraft aluminum and are quite a bit lighter than the steel PRW's. They also make a ring that resembles the Burris Zee ring that are very nice. Those are the LRW rings and are made of steel. They cost more than Burris zee's, but are pretty much the same thing. All of those would work nicely on your rifle, but material they are made from, cost and weight are up to you to decide on..

Probably going to be a bit high with your scope choice unless they have added a low to the lineup.
