Why has there always been such a compulsion to make them (the levers) so ugly?

I have never liked the lever on the Ruger #3, as the recoil on the 30-40s and 45-70s would bruise my middle finger.

the Ruger #1 rifles are a classic in the gun world , some of use enjoy hunting with a Ruger #1`s ,shooting Ruger 1`s and even collecting Ruger #1`s . its in the eye of the person who enjoys a single shot rifle that loads and unloads easy and likes the small challenge of the one shot while hunting. the lever on Ruger #1 gives the rifle a classy look or appearance on a nice wood stock .

The lever on my Stevens 44 1/2 isn't ugly. It even has an extension on it that handles my last two fingers nicely when shooting.

I don’t think the levers on my Sharps rifles are ugly
