Moderately priced reliable zero and non-CCP. An illuminated dot is a plus.

W/EZ EYEBOX as number 1 subjective criteria.

Bushnell

How do the Made in S Korea Elite 4500 and Nitro compare to the old MOJ Elite 4200 and each other? Bushnell has a broad range of price points from S.K. so I am skeptical they're anything special - just because of it.

Trijicon

Credo Ascent and Huron (both MOJ) 3-12s, seem like a lot of scope for the money. Any comments? Eye relief figures are a bit low. Eyebox? Subtentions listed anywhere?

Others?

Preferences
30mm over 1" generally.
FireDot vs full illumination.
2.5-15, 3-12 about ideal, 1-8, 1-10, 2-10, 3-9
Simple reticle, like Leupold LRD, Burris Ballistic Plex.

Yep, like a VX-R mostly.

The Huron has unacceptably short eye relief. Scratch it off the list.

The Credo 3-9 is a fantastic scope, but is a one inch fully illuminated reticle. I own 2. Very easy to get behind. Outstanding illumination control. Depending upon rifle, throw knob may get in the way of the bolt on 9X. It did on my Christensen.

A Meopta Optika 5 may be to your liking. 1 inch but checks your other boxes. Easy to get behind and good illumination control. https://cameralandny.com/shop/tags/...0138-9c65-00163e90e196?variation=2779784

Soo. I have a couple Sightron S-tac 3-16s MOA3s that might be ok. Am away from home. Seemed pretty dim on one occasion IIRC though.. And a bit high power for SFP.

Thanks for the input PB. Not sure on the Trijicon eye relief figures until getting ahold of them. One rifle will need more. I will look at the link. I haven't looked at Meopta in a while nor for this approach. Looks like a good Meopta sale at CLNY.

Sorry, it's the Trijicon Ascent and Huron I'm looking at.

Side note. Bunch of Ebay ads for new Burris Fullfield ii, 3-9 Ballistic Plex scopes from new sellers or directly from China. Buyer beware.

Doug recently had a Meopta Meosport 30mm with an illuminated dot for sale at $375 (normally $450). I bought one on for a 7 mag. Scope adjusted perfectly and took three shots to sight in, then fired a 1/4" group with it. Optics are bright, crosshair is duplex with very fine crosshairs and a small dot. 3-15 iirc Sorry I haven't memorized all the details, but check it out. There's some youtube videos on them.

WTF, you didn't tell me about scrolling down! Thanks Dale.

That looks good, minus a lit dot.

Sooooo, did you find the same for the Ascent? Exterior dimensions are identical for the Huron and Ascent...

I've emailed a request for subtensions for the Ascent...

Mtn,

I looked through a Huron 2.5-10 and the eye relief/eyebox was barely adequate by my estimation. The owner said he also had a 3-9 Huron (1" tube) and the eye relief was slightly better.

Prior to that I looked through an Ascent 3-12 and eye relief was a non starter--it was terrible.

Plus I wouldn't call any of the above except the 3-9 lightweight. A scope approaching 20 oz isn't lightweight to me.

Like you eye relief/eyebox is a very important criteria for my hunting scopes. I have looked through, purchased a few, and perused the specs on dozens if not hundreds of scopes over the past few years. It's hard to find a lightweight scope with a big eyebox that doesn't say Leupold on it.....

Thanks! Similar journey... I much appreciate your input. I will hold off on those for now based upon your input. No sense in getting something critically flawed in those regards.

How about those Bushnell models? The current Korean made Elite 4500 and Nitro?

I bought several Nitro scopes when they were closed out. I got most at $200.00 or less. I did not get a 3x12. I haven't dialed them at all but they have been used as set and forget with the BDC feature. Mine are all second focal plane. For what I gave for them and how I use them, I like them.

How about a Tract Toric in 2-10x42? Perfect set and forget scope, that will even dial a bit if you want it to. I just so happen to have one for sale too. Pm me if interested.
