Well,
I have found myself the new owner of a model7Predator in 22-250. I have several 55 grain bullets from Sierra and Hornady. Looking to Coyote hunt and also looking for decent accuracy. The 6mm BR has spoiled me for accuracy and I quit fooling with 22-250 about 20 years ago. I have a good selection of powder mostly the older numbers from Hodgkin, IMR, and Winchester. Where would you start? I’m not one to push the envelope so would stay a grain or two below maximum charges or more. Intuition o right hopes one are telling me I might get good results with 748 of which Ihavea good supply.
Point me in the right direction please.

4320 has always been good for me, H-380 was the goto for years. That model 7 Predator is one of the nicest factory coyote guns built. I've missed out on a couple over the year but I have a custom Rem 600 in 6x45. And a little 700 carbine I built in 20P.

I just found a pound of IMR 4320 unopened I think. It has a $15.99 price if that tells you something. I may pair it up with the Sierra 55 gr BTHP.

I have had couple of those Model 7 Predators in 22-250, and still have one of them. My first one really liked the 52 grain Speer HP. I'm shooting a 40 grain VMax with Varget powder in my current one, and it's like a laser out to 300 yards, a very good shooting rifle. I've had some more 22-250's in the past, and used 4320, H380, W760, and probably a few others that I can't remember. For some reason, I've never tried the 55 grain bullets in one, although I did try some 60 grain SP's trying to maybe work up a load for deer, but the accuracy just wasn't there.

Im Pretty sure 4320 is no longer in production so if your rifle likes that one you may want to try stocking up on it if you can find any at all.

I’ve probably shot more coyotes with a 22-250 and 50 ballistic tips than with everything else combined. I started out using imr4064 but have used H4895, imr8208 and CFE223 among others.

It will be easy to get that one to shoot a variety of load combinations.

IMR 4064 and CFE 223 have both worked well for me with 40 and 50 grain bullets.

A friend of mine really liked H380 in his 22-250.

My Remington 100 really liked the IMR4064. Wish I would have kept it in its original configuration. Love my .17FB Predator model.

Varget and a 55 grainer. It'll shoot that guaranteed.

My 7 Predator 22-250 shoots IMR 3031 and 52 grn hp’s really well. Stocks are a little jinky; great for toting around the deer woods though.

I bet it’ll shoot 63 gr Sierra SMP’s with either IMR 4350 or H 4350. If so it’ll hammer coyotes, deer, pigs, and just about anything else.

Why are you trimming your brass so short? That's about .012" shorter than suggested trim length.

I totally agree with that statement. I had one in 17FB. Nice package. I would still have it, but I decided to make a 17Rem Kimber M84 Montana.

Not sure what you mean by that, but a Remington Model 7 Predator is a much better rifle than the Ruger.

I bought a 22-250 Predator last week. I have only been to the range with it. I have loaded 60 and 63 grain bullets so far. I hope to get back to the range this week.

I'll add, that a good 22.250 barrel is almost like a 223 in the fact that like about anything will work in it...

Kind of like the old VW Bugs of days gone by...they'd run on about any type of gasoline you put in them...

Myself, I'd reach for the three IMR powders first... or H322... or Benchmark...

RL 15 or Win 748 are never a bad choice either...

my .02, not kicking the 7, just the twist, been shooting a longggggggggggg time, the twist on 22-250's when they came out was 1-12 or 1-14, couldn't go much over a 55gr bullet, when the first 1-9 came out I shot 70gr berger's 3 holes touching, then it was 1-8 and 1-7, my point is if you are going to buy a 22-250 treat yourself to a faster twist, you won't regret it.

Does anyone know the twist rate of the Model 7?

My No1 with a 1-14 will shoot a 55 gr flat base but not a 55 BT. Or maybe it will but I just have not found the recipe yet. My friends dad was the original owner and he worked up a ton of loads. Eventually he just stuck to the 55 gr FB. It shoots lighter gr factory ammo well.

50 gr Barnes seems to be right on the edge I feel. But it is also a 26” barrel so the velo is pretty high. Still not great but 1.25” at 100y. Good enough to try work up a load for that bullet.

I have had many 1-14 .22-250's. I started when it was still a wildcat. I have used bullets as light as 36 gr. and heavy as 70 gr. Speer. I had one 1-8 twist. It didn't really shoot anything well. When I am hunting I don't have time to range, twist knobs, and get on target. I like the speed of 50=55 gr. bullets and they do all I need for hunting. I suppose it I wanted to shoot steel at long range there would be a benefit. I don't. So the fast twist is like the 6.5 Creedmore. A great gimmick for selling stuff.

I don't think that the 6.5 CM is a "gimmick", as it does what it is advertised to do and does it quite well with factory ammo.

Being a 260 REM guy, I believe that the original 1-9" ROT 260 will kill things as well as the 6.5 CM out to a range where shooting a longer VLD style bullet is necessary. A 260 REM with a 1-9" ROT barrel will shoot 130 grain ABs just as well as a 6.5 CM with a 1-8" ROT barrel will. The 6.5 CM win the race because there have always been better factory loads available for the great majority of hunters who don't reload and don't have sufficient shooting skills to reliably take game at ranges that are often far less than a 1/4 of a mile.
