Pulled the lever today - Ordered a Kibler Colonial in 50cal rifled. Extra Fancy maple. With Patch box.

Might remember my old post about wanting one and asking about caliber. here

Little confusing on the web site for wait times. Extra Fancy Maple is listed 2x. 3-4 weeks or 8 weeks but he also posted a pile of blanks being dried out to Instagram over the weekend - who knows.

I, literally, couldn't find a single negative review of him/his stuff and I like that he's put out the videos so I guess I'll just wait!

Thinking about ordering a woods runner my dang self. Thinking it could be as much fun or more shooting a flintlock compared to my percussion hawkens. Probably go 54.

If these are as good as everyone says they'll be - I'm likely in for another.

I think, stock wise, I'll do his Iron Nitrate and then over the top with Tried and True. I like that look, bit darker to show off the curl.

I went back and forth between a colonial or a woods runner and probably order a woods runner. The slightly smaller size is pulling me that way.

This tried and true you speak of, is this like true oil ?

Basically this.

He shows it being used here - cuts first with turpentine and then follow ups are 100%

I'm more excited than I thought I would be. Mostly into it because of my kid really loves the mountain man era and such. Always talking about it, has Jeremiah Johnson and The Revenant on repeat. He wants us to do some Rendezvous and the like. I'm down for it, even paying for it but my proclivities are much more Colonial - The Patriot, Townsends etc. That type. Breeches and cocked hat, not buckskins and coons.

But I like a good project and will simply take as much time as needed to do the best job I can on it over the summer.

Sweet! That's my plan too - aged...

Prob drive over to Woodcraft this weekend and see about decent chisels. Will wait on sand paper will the kit arrives.

Very cool. Look forward to your reports on the kit and building progress.

I’ve been wanting a Southern Mountain rifle in .45.

I'm looking forward to just getting my hands on it lol. Haven't been this excited in a long time. Have a feeling, I'll end up gifting it to one of the kids and starting over after. But they don't know that yet.

Lol - while I wish I had more kids - I'm done.

My son and the GF's 3 boys are enough for now.

Got the colonial in a few days ago and got it together. The finish came out darker than I wanted but it's ok with me. It ain't a collector. I plan on shooting the piss out of it and probably drag it around the woods a bit. Shot it this evening and that was pure fun.

Damn that's too cool. I have a .54 Woodsrunner with extra fancy on order from December. Can't wait for my turn to come up hopefully in June.

Jeeper, That turned out beautiful.

Teal, be curious to hear your thoughts on how difficult it is to finish. Buddy has a good skill set and seems to get great results on them.

It's not hard for someone that has some experience using tools. Watch all the YT videos and try to take your time. Can be some frustration with alignment of pins and such. Take your time drilling the holes out and have extra drill bits on hand. Use the drilling guide as intended. Have a 1/16 punch to help with confirming pins are going where they are supposed to. I let pin push the punch out to make sure pin is going through the holes. I was trying for a darker finish on the stock and it came out a little darker than I was shooting for. It's my first flintlock and I am very happy with it. My percussion guns will take back seat for awhile.

It showed up today - intact and well packaged. Really well. Lots of thought there.

So I ordered the last bits of things I wanted to/needed etc. Chisel set I wanted, some more sand paper and scotch brite-red, and a heat gun etc.

I thought they were packaged well also. USPS still tried to tear into the bottom of the crate on mine. Bottom was 2 pieces of press board glued and stapled. they had one end of the press board loose. I think someone may have been trying to take a peek at the contents.
Best of luck with your build. I hope it exceeds your expectations. I am very pleased with mine. Shot it a few times this afternoon in the back. Can't really shoot a lot here anymore. I shot 30 grain loads to keep the volume down. Freakin subdivision coming up behind me. I hope to go to my shooting club Friday and let it roll.
