AA2495 how's the temperature sensitivity when loaded in 308 ?

don't never kept up much on the Accurate powders not really sure why
but working on some 308 loads for M1A and come across some information suggesting that at least at one time this powder was the same or nearly the same as one of the 4895s and was a great powder for such use.. I'm trying to do a little more..
and one of the big reasons I'm considering it it seems to be more obtainable than a lot of the other stuff currently at least through my local reload shop

The latest version is Accurate 2495, which was produced specifically for Western Powders (the company that introduced Ramshot powders in 2000). Western bought out the original Accurate Arms company around 15 years ago--and dropped the "Arms" in the name. (Now, of course, Hodgdon owns both brands--since they recently bought Western Powders.)

I fooled around with the newly-produced A4895 for a while, and found it was indeed pretty close to the 4895s in burn rate. In fact it was among the best powders for a Ruger .250 Savage I had for a while, which isn't surprising since IMR4895 works well in the .250. Can't remember doing any of my formal temperature tests with it, but will check my loading notes and see what shows up.

thank you. the more I dig into this idea the more it seems like that is a very appropriate choice for use in an M1A and a much more readily available powder and not have to be on the powder hunt all the time..

Given the description on the Hodgdon website I'd be inclined to give it a whirl. The statement about excellent ignition characteristics suggests to me it isn't one of those that needs to run full throttle to behave consistently.

I ended up with 3lbs of A2495 in from a trade at a LGS and so far I like it. Threw a middle of the road load in 308 win and ran them thru my Schultz and Larson target gun. It produced a nice 3/8" 5 shot group. Load development then commenced for other purposes. It's a tad slower than H4895. In the 308 win with 168 match hp's 43.5grs A2495 = 42.5 grs H4895. Hanging 2700fps from a 26" bull barrel

I don't know how old your powder is, but there was a recall on AA2495 awhile back.
I had three pounds affected and AA cut me a check to buy a new batch.

My A2495 is new stock. I bought the 2022 annual manual from Hodgdon just so I could get data on A2495. I do know that this powder is not to be used in a Garand. It's not listed for 30-06 loads with 150gr bullets

I bought some a while back to try as a sub for my dwindling stock of the unicorn fart rare H4895. I just got to shoot it through a few cartridges after work today, and was pretty pleased with the results. My 308 Win loved it, and my 303 Savage and 300 Savage shot it pretty decent. The 250 Savage didn't care for it, but I have plenty of good shooting alternatives for it.

Groups were shot at 55 yards, iron sights on all 3 rifles. I'm also just not a great shot in general.

308 Win... the flier on this one was a flinch. I need to get a better pad on the rifle, because it beats the crap out of me. 😬

I remember reading it's not to be used in a Garand on another site when reading up on this powder. In this case I'd say it's both until further notice.

My semiautomatic AR 308 gobbled them up no complaints. Won't be any problems in bolt guns either.

I believe Hornady shows Garand data for it.

I put the question to Hodgdon. We'll see what they say about A2495 in 30-06 Garand loads

Hornady reloading manual number 10 does show accurate 2495 in the m1 Garand section. it also showed the bargain in the 308 service rifle and m1 Garand section but a lot of people say do not use it..... ???

The burn rate is right in the 4895 range. I can't imagine why the same basic charges with the 4895s suggested for Garands wouldn't work well (and safely for the op-rod) with bullet weights in the typical Garand range.

M1 Garand loads, 150/155 gr bullets
Accurate 2495 40.5gr - 44.6gr

I shot a lot of AA 2495 in the early 90s, Heavy bullets in XTC competition. It shot very well. But had a flame on the end of the barrel.

"We do not have a garand specific load for this powder but Hornady shows it in the Garand section of their load manual . it would be within the appropriate burn speeds for Garand use.

Must have been a little disinformation floating around regarding this powder and the 30-06. I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't be safe either and am glad Hodgdon answered this question.

I had some of about 2015 mfg date. Was involved in the recall. I was reimbursed for my cost. Was told to dispose of it. Found a neat way, put 35 grains in a 220 swift case behind a 50 grain Hornady and shoot at gophers. Bought a can of later production. Accurate says they tried to duplicate IMR 4895. Should be easy as they are made in the same plant. Kernels vary in length, otherwise looks like IMR 4895.

I used a bunch of it in a .45-70 behind a Beartooth Bullets PileDriver Jr, got just over 1800 fps before I yelled "Uncle". It was accurate, too, at least for the first couple shots.

that's a little odd because for my purpose here the 2495 is very closely replicating H 4895 but IMR 4895 is not working for me...

IMR 4895 has worked very well for me in numerous cartridges from .222 up to 45-70 I have used it for 60 years.

when I say not working I mean for me this project is M1A were 2495 and H 4895 running appropriate velocities and cycling the action just fine the IMR version is running the velocities but not cycling the action..

i just got 5 lbs of AA2495 last week for my 6BR rifles anyone have the recipe on best grain weight with this powder ? thanks,Pete53
