I own a nice winchester 9422 and I'm considering having it relined for accuracy.
I'd like to shoot it in Cowboy Lever Action silhouette but they have rules specifically against rebarreling.
Is this more trouble than its worth?

It would be for me but your mileage may vary.

Just how inaccurate is it?

It's hard to wear out a .22 or even a .22 WMR. Could it just need a crown touch up?

What the others have said - I haven’t met any “inaccurate” 9422s and have had or been around dozens of the things (certainly not saying they aren’t out there but typically they shoot very well). Mine have varied dramatically ammo to ammo and lot to lot within ammo but have usually found some that they liked and often ones that they really liked. Relining wouldn’t guarantee accuracy anyway…….my thought would be to not reline. Now if the rifling is worn from poor cleaning or badly pitted then I’d consider it a candidate for a reline……FWIW.

Get all the lead out of the bore in one of the several ways recommended on this sight. Then have the barrel recrowned. Almost 100% sure it will fix any problem you might be having with accuracy~!

Other than a bore that looks like a gravel road there is no reason to re-bore any rimfire....really the only rimfire bores I've seen that needed a re-bore have been from the turn of the 20 Century using cheep steel compared to now....
Lever action tend to get abused at the muzzle bumped and a cleaning rod doing most of the damage.....
Have the muzzle touched up then work on different brands of ammo....getting it re-lined will not make it a instant 10X shooter....

I’ve read that the relined BSA Martinis are very accurate. Is there any similar info about other reline jobs?

Waste of $$$$. Clean it good and try different ammo. let someone else shoot it to see if it's just you......Had mine since 77 and it's perfectly accurate.

Accuracy really depends up the quality of the liner and the person doing the work.

Still a waste of time and $$$$. Most all quality .22's are capable of better accuracy than the one pulling the trigger.
