This morning while letting my dogs out I gave a loud owl hoot and was cut off by three gobbles. April 17th can't get here fast enough.

very cool, trees are budding out here and grass is greening up, I think it will be an early spring and they have moved the start date of the season back too weeks.
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

Cool!
All the birds are going crazy right now. The Bluebirds are mating and fighting and shytting all over my car when they fight themselves in my side view mirrors. I was out last night by the fire pit with my wife drinking some hot wine, watching a female dove getting gang r***ed by three male doves. They aren't all olive-branchy-peaceful. And they don't seem to be as monogomous as reported. They're little horn dogs. All my bird houses have birds fighting over them.
I think Puillit's right. It look like an early spring. Virginia's turkey season generally has been starting the second week of April. By then most of the mating is well over. The upside is that it appears our state's population is growing.

Turkeys gobbling hot this morning in Canyon, West Texas. Had a hen and gobbler come close to my campsite, gobbler was ripping it up. First time my wife had heard a gobbler in her life.
Hoping to see Aodad today, then on to Sedona by way of Albuquerque.

It has been very slow in SE Iowa. Cold and windy.
We have been able to coax a few gobbles in a very few places. Mostly a single gobble and then goes quiet.
I did find one this morning that would not shut up till he hit the ground. I backed out and will save him for youth season April 7th.
I'm not sure if they are reluctant to gobble or just not there.

Our youth season is this weekend. A friend's son got a nice tom in the blizzard we were having yesterday.

Open here now. Had planned to get out already, but things came up. Hopefully this week. I've got two big gobblers targeted.

Heard the first one this morning 10 minutes after daylight here in Tennessee. Hope he is still gobbling in two weeks for the juvenile season.
