Yes--but used to be far more common.

I have a claw mount that is attached to the scope, is this common? Attached how? Rings (or part-rings, not full circumference) soldered to the scope? Rail on the underside of the scope to which the legs are pinned? Something else?

Soldering the rings or part rings to the scope is something I would associate with older German guns. It is not uncommon on them. If the scope is still good, and in a size you like, there's probably no issue with it. You need not be tied to that scope, nor to soldered-on rings - changing scopes will however required someone who knows what they are doing to hand-fit the new claws to the bases.

Just un-soldering the rings requires the scope being disassembled down to the tube, so that scope is not a viable one for much of anything, IMO. You're far better off having a Recknagel swing mount system installed on a gun and use 1"/26mm rings or 30mm rings and a modern scope. An older steel tube scope with soldered rings and no matching bases is pretty much just a steel club or spyglass. If you have the gun the scope goes on just live with that or do Recknagels.
