I have had this rifle for a bit. It is in 8x57. ShootsWinchester power points well. Appears to be a factory claw mount set up. Rifle would have been made shortly after WW2. Early round top receiver. Looking to get $1750 for it. Would be interested in Mauser rifles or CRF Winchesters, especially something 7x64 as trades.
Overall rifle is in nice shape. Someone added the recoil pad, but is otherwise original. If you see anything you would like a better look at, I can take additional pictures.
With the pad that was added I bet it wouldn’t be too pad as a 9.3x62. Or could split the difference and do 9.3x57. I’ve not found any of the 9.3’s I’ve had to be particularly violent in recoil. A 1640 isn’t far off from what a model 21 is weight wise and those are very popular as 9.3’s.
Bump! Man these are really really neat rifles. Some of the most elegant factory sporting rifles I’ve ever had the pleasure of handling. It’s hard to convey how trim and balanced they are until you feel one. Looks like someone at some point along the way added a magnum cross bolt for reinforcement as well. The intact claw mount scope set up should be a big selling point! Awesome!
Can't get a finer factory rifle than the Brno. I have two of the slightly later versions with the double square bridge actions and full stocks. Two of my kids have spoken for them but they won't get'em until I've kicked the bucket.
