Anyone ever see a peep sight made to fit into a Leupold QR base? I've looked everywhere and can't come up with anything but I'll swear I saw one sometime ago. thanks

Nope. The only one I am aware of and own is from Talley for their base.

I think the one I saw was custom made. I have a few ideas in my head but would really like to see if anyone had done it before.

A buddy of mine made one out of a Williams rear sight ramp. He chucked a ramp in his 4 jaw on his lathe and turned it the bottom leaving a post of the proper size in the center of the ramp. He then milled the half round notch in the post for the lock stud in the base. Put a peep aperture on the ramp slider and viola! Fully adjustable and lightweight if not particularly beautiful.

He keeps it in a small tobacco pouch on the sling of his big bear rifle.

I looked at that and the Talley setup. This a knight Disc Extreme muzzleloader that I already have set up with Leupold QR bases and rings. I use it during our modern firearm season with the scope in firearm restricted areas. But during our muzzleloader elk season I have to use open sights. I do have other muzzleloaders I could swap back and forth but I really like this particular gun. I actually have a sight partially finished that I think will work but was just looking at some other options. I know I saw one, and I'm pretty sure it was on here within the last couple of years. I actually saved the picture on my computer but I must have deleted it at one time or another.

Redfield used to make a base with a peep sight attached to the flat surface on the back of the base. Willis Fowler an Anchorage, Alaska gunsmith had some from various rifles. He would attach them to the appropriate base if he did not have one to fit your rifle. If you look up " Redfield Scope Base with peep sight" you will see pictures. If I remember it involved tapping two #4 holes on the back of the base.
Warne also made bases with an inbuilt sight.
I've had rifles with both types over the years. Only takes one scope failure to make sure you have backup.
Another option: Numrich has Redding shotgun peep sights. If you remove the sliding "peep" you can drill and tap the scope base. Deflection only but you can work with the front sight for elevation.

For the QR won’t be hard just time consuming
And tedious

Let me know what you come up with. I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and even started working on one. Never finished it. Not even sure where it is now.

I had one of these on a 35 Whelen. I found two two problems with it.

First, the sight body blocks a lot of your view.

Second, to adjust elevation, you unscrew the knurled ring outside the aperture, slide it up or down, then retighten it. Unlike other sights, you can't unscrew that disc and just use the open aperture.

NECG has some interesting detachable sights. Apertures with threaded posts too if you're committed to making one. Link here:

I have a couple sets of those mounts in rifles and if I had to make a quick rear peep I’d use the bottom half of a ring set and cut off the ring to leave a square block to build on. I’m sure I could cobble a reasonable peep from that. If I had more time I’d do it from scratch because reproducing the lug would be straight forward.
