My sister is a self-proclaimed alcoholic and is on her way down to visit my mom, who lives nearby. I generally have a campfire and a whiskey drink or two on a Saturday. Especially looking forward to it today as I have surgery next week and will be on pain killers, so no alcohol for a while.

Should I offer her a drink? Not drink while she's here? Get her blasted? LOL

Jeez, at least offer her some decent booze, might as well give the blended canuck to the homeless in portlandia...

That's a fugged up question ball. If she be a drinking alchy she will bring her own.

If she's not she'll turn down your offer.

You should mix yer alchy and the pain killers.

Fireball2, It would not be brotherly if you didn't let her drink as much as she wants lol

Never even heard of that whiskey and I live here, but then again I drink Jack Daniels shooters with Beer.

Offering your poor sister a drink of booze is to enable her. Instead, you should offer her a Dr. Pepper, and join her with a Dr. Pepper of your own.

Who knows? Perhaps she'll come to like Dr. Pepper better than booze and she'll be cured of alcoholism due to your help. You'll have done her a favor with your unselfish humanitarianism.

wink

You should neither enable her or walk on eggshells around her. You do you.

She’s an adult and should be treated like one. If she’s going to drink she’s going to drink. Just put the stuff out and tell people to help themselves.

Maybe a nice hand rolled spliff instead of the whiskey?

If you’re serious and she’s serious that depends if you want her to quit drinking or not.

My brother, two of my cousins and my uncle are/were alcoholic, my parents never were, neither was I tho I drank heavily into my twenties. I’m pretty sure there’s a genetic component.

I don’t drink in front of them, there’s plenty of other opportunities .

…and if you yourself find it hard NOT to drink……..

In my generation of my extended family, 4 of 9 had alcohol problems. In the previous generation 4 of 6, and in the third generation, 3 of 8.

I don't answer the phone after 5 p.m. if it is a drinker's phone number.

A buddy of mine who I'd tip a glass and enjoy a fine cigar with from time to time had the solution. Alky guests got what the bars call well booze, the invited guests enjoyed the finer spirits from the top shelf along with the cigars from the humidor versus the Dutch Masters or White Owls for the moochers.
