I have a lot of points on a bass pro credit card so drove to a bass pro and came out with a stainless trx in 308win. I wanted another model 70 or a savage storm but they didn't have any in 308 so I thought, what the hell, I'll give tikka a try. Also got an extra mag and a leupold scope. Ordered some talley mounts from optics planet once I arrived back home. I'll put it all together in a few days. I no longer reload so it'll be factory ammo for deer and an elk this December. Looking forward to shooting it soon.

Good purchase. You'll be pleased with how it shoots for you.

Pretty hard to beat a Tikka .308.

I know that I would be completely content to hunt the rest of my days with my Tikka .308. It is topped with a nice Nightforce compact 2-10X and for anything I may want to hunt in the Rockies, it does the job with ease.

I believe you will be 100% satisfied with it. I own several of them and find them to be a great value and accuracy is outstanding. Good Luck and enjoy.

Great rifle!

Why did you stop reloading? Just curious.

Just getting older and I'm just a hunter, no longer shoot targets for groups. Factory ammo is sufficient for my hunting needs. I have friends who do reload so I have that option. Thanks

The most accurate out of the box rifles I’ve ever owned.

Boringly accurate; takes all the fun out of load development.

Sure, but then you gotta buy another one just to make sure the last wasn't a fluke. That's how they get you.....

I did the same thing with tikka. Was always a 700 or 70 guy, gave tikka a try and it freaked me out with how good it shot. I got a 6.5x55 and it'll put 140 factory ammo in a 1/2 inch.

I was talking to a gunsmith several years ago about rebarreling a 700, he said yeah he could do that or I could just buy a Savage!!! Lol.

I'm still waiting on my talley rings to arrive. I have about 15 different factory loads for 308win, so it shouldn't be a problem finding at least 1 or 2 which will work for deer and elk.
That said, I've owned many different big game rifles over the last 55 years. The most accurate was a savage weather warrior in 30-06. It will easily shoot sub moa with factory 180gr rem corelokts, and several other 180gr factory loads. I gave that rifle to one of my SILs. While savage may not make the best looking rifle (opinions are like butt holes), those I have owned were more accurate "out of the box" with factory ammo than any others. I expect the t3x to equal my previous savages. We'll see.

I've been looking for something that shoots a long way but doesn't hammer me.

It was down to a T3x in 270 WSM and a Vanguard in 6.5 300 Wby. I got such a good deal on the Vanguard I went that way.

The lighter weight and inherent Tikka accuracy nearly won the day, however. I'll be watching this thread to see if I should get the Tikka too. I hear the T3X has a few improvements over the earlier T3...steel cocking piece shroud, steel recoil lug, sound deadened stock.

Let us know how it does, congrats on cashing in your points on a nice rifle.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
