I'm thinking about a Vanguard Talus in the Wby 6.5. Is it performing as Weatherby claims?

Mine shoots very well. Have not had an opportunity on game yet. Good luck

Yes, it performs like Weatherby claims.

I had one for a while, an Ultra Lightweight Mark V, with a 26" barrel. It got just about exactly the same velocities as my 26 Nosler, a Nosler rifle with a 26" barrel. This wasn't surprising, since the powder capacity of the two cases is just about exactly the same.

Same here.

I believe they stopped loading the 140 grain A frame though. I have 30 rounds left.

I know of 2 people that own them personally. They both have Mark V Terramarks and they claim they are the most accurate Marks they have ever owned. The people saying this are collectors and hunters .

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking of something that will reach out like my 300 Wby but not hammer me so hard. Being busted up and now older, that's a big consideration.

I have been thinking of this cartridge, my 270 and 7mm Accumarks I thought had a lot of fast recoil . This is probably on par or a little more recoil.

I just got one a few months ago, but have only had it out to my range for one session. It's pictured on top. Lower gun is a 338-378.
If you plan to hand load for it, you need to get some US 869 powder.

Shot a few three shot groups at 100 with it.
I'm not sure what the issue is with the Weatherby Factory (Hornady bullet) ammo, but my rifle doesn't shoot it very well at all.

Weatherby Factory 140gr Hornady, Group 1 - 2.5"
140gr Accubond 1.1"
143gr ELD-X 7/16"
130gr Berger Hunter 1-3/8"
140gr Partition 15/16"
Weatherby Factory 130gr Scirroco 1.1"
Weatherby Factory 140gr Hornady, Group 2 - 3.1"
120gr TTSX 3/4"

Run it up, until you blow it up, then back it down a bit.

Wow.

That stock design is "unique"

My 6.5-300 Wby Accumark (26” bbl) shoots some better than others. I got the best out of the 140gr ABs and the 156gr Berger Hunters. Generally, 1/2" – 3/4".

Per Labradar: the factory-loaded 140gr ABs came out at 3,308 fps, and the 156gr Berger Hunters came out at 3,060 fps.

This is what it should look like at 10,000 ft (elk hunting where I go):

It's not a beautiful MK V, but the Vanguards I've had all shot well. I found this Vanguard KUIU Vias at a good price on GI and have it on the way. It has a 26" fluted barrel. In about two weeks I'll decide whether it's what I "need". grin.

These aren't eye candy like those two LH MK Vs. I'll look a lot at my German 300 WBY and shoot this one.

I hunted with a Guide who used a Mark V and the 143 ELDX for backup shots on elk waaaay out there and gone! First of all he is a great rifle shot, 2nd, He shoots it alot, so knows it well. 3rd, He likes/has confidence in the ammo. Its more than I need to mess with, but it is a flat shooting devil!
