I may have a beater of a 22 hornet barrel to get relined.
What would you reline to?
I have a 25-20, a 30-30 and maybe a K-hornet.
Would it handle a 17 Zipper?
Maybe go the other direction, and a 375Win or heavier?
It needs some deep scope mount holes welded, so I'm not sure about a rebore.

A couple years ago I had something I wanted relined and the two places I contacted said they wouldn't reline rifles anymore. Maybe a rebore. We know JES does that.

Maybe the old 25-20 and stuff like that might still be a go?

I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.

K-Hornet would be my pick.

"Beater" in what way? Entire bore bad or just the chamber? If the latter then Rick's suggestion makes sense.

"Relined"? Has it been lined once before and needs lined again?

Forget about lining a barrel for a high intensity cartridge. No reputable gunsmith would consent to doing such folderol. Stick with low pressure stuff. .25-20 and the like is good, I don't know that I would want to do a .219 Zipper.

Your remark about deep screw holes probably makes it a moot point anyway. Remember a liner for the likes of what you describe will be at least 3/8", probably 1/2" or 5/8" and that dear heart is a lot for that skinny barrel especially if there's deep screw holes.

I agree. The guy who did my 32-20 would not do a 219 Zipper. There is a reason.

Maybe a rebore to a pistol caliber?
Is 357 max to hot?
Is 45 colt to large of a diameter?

Yep, talk to the guy who would do the reboring. He'll tell you what's what. Assuming this is a 219 barrel being discussed, my gut says that .45 Colt is probably too big. As far as will a 219 hold the .357 Maxi, I should think it would since those things can be found in .30-30, and I've heard tell of .30-30's being re-chambered to .30-40 Krag. But it's not about "strength", it's about practicality and utility.

Naturally the first question to resolve is if the gun is in sound condition to accept a conversion to a hotter/fatter cartridge. Is the barrel "on face" to the standing breech (headspace in other words)? Locking mechanism not worn to crap? Firing pin hole and breech face not eroded? Can you alter/install a new extractor?

Of course, if it's the same barrel you started this thread with, again it could easily all be a moot point if your threaded holes are too deep. What may be "sorta/kinda ok" now with a .22 bore and Hornet chamber may get dicey if opened up to .35-.45 caliber. Even then if it holds ok you're then still left with a miserably thin safety margin. Think! Think! (And please don't make your next question be "Can I fill the holes to avert that?")

I'm definitely getting the holes tig welded and retapped. Even if it stays a hornet. Who ever did it was ham handed.
I'm keeping it a barrel mounted side mount. The roll print is toast and I have the mount.

32 H&R Mag would be a lot of fun, and it's low pressure.

327 Fed would probably be a bit hot, since it has been Swiss cheesed.
