Been reading a little about the scope of the RESTRICT Act that supposedly 'bans' Tik Tok.

I do believe that Tik Tok and other Chinese entities need to be 'restricted' in the US. However it seems that this act goes way beyond it's purported mission.

It includes limits on FOIA, access to user data, limits on VPNs, and penalties of up to $1M and 20 years in prison for violations.

Thoughts?

Can’t have China spying on U.S. citizens. That’s Washington D.C.’s job!

China spies on US through Tik Tok

FBI spies on US through Twitter, Facebook, Google, YouTube.

See the difference?

Neither do I.

I do. Congress isn’t talking about banning Twitter, Facebook, Google, and YouTube. Gotta eliminate the competition.

This new law actually gives vast new powers to the Federal Government to arrest and imprison Americans who express wrongthink.

Legislation always has two consequences, intended and unintended. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish which is which. The Patriot Act is a good example.

Its terrible legislation that gives this illegal gov and future govs power they should not have. If this was truly just about a stupid app, then that should be whats listed. Its not and the broad law will allow gov to imprison folks in the future for downloading apps they say are bad or getting info from a source the gov claims is bad. This country should NOT allow this gov to gain anymore power at all. We should all be working towards stripping them of over reaching powers they currently have

Not a big Tucker fan but he exposed this bill a few days ago as the abomination that it is. It gives much power to the Deep State to control/limit information to the people. It should NOT be passed as is but will likely be stampeded through without anyone reading what they are voting on...as per usual.🤬👎

Just listing the app or entity is unconstitutional. Bill of attainder. However it is clear that the legislation to work around that (encompass any entity/app that behaves in a similarly way) is expanded to be far more broad.

Didn't some gullible fools think the Patriot Act was a good idea?

just another way to control information and thereby the masses. Dept of Homeland Security seemed like a good idea at the time, and to a lot of people. Look what that got us.

Ostensibly, their purpose for the legislation is to prevent spying/abuse/intrusion/etc. by foreign powers.

In that regard, the law should not include a single restriction on, or penalty for, US citizen access and use - none.

There are existing laws that apply to bad behavior of that sort - and those are not being applied properly - as with the Bidens.

To certain fools here, perhaps. Others took heat at the Fire for opposing it from the start.

a chip implanted in your brain is probably less invasive when the bill makes the use of privacy devices illegal.

Yes, you are correct. As with any other time that gov gets involved, they are trying to give themselves endless power, which this bill is loaded with

We don't even know who actually wrote the bill.

Guaranteed it was not the guys who signed it as "sponsors".
