On Gunbroker for a while.

These represent my first foray into serious bidding there.

The Model 18 may have history as a traveler. I believe these to be proof marks from Germany's Ulm facility.

Those are beautiful. I will own a nice S&W .22lr revolver one day!

Just noticed when I put them away last night, that the Model 18 has a small re-importation etching on the barrel flat above the ejector rod.

Don't think it'll show in a photo, but it reads TEXIMP FORNEY TX

Born in Massachusetts, the Model 18-3 has evidently seen Germany and Texas. The GB seller I got it from is in Florida, so it's moved around some.

The Model 10-5 came to me from Burlington NC. It's a nice enough old revolver, but I would characterize it as "used and carried, but cared for". It has a very slick DA trigger pull...

I consider the Model 10 to be a good buy at $335, and the Model 18 to be a steal at $718

68 degrees yesterday, and the sky was dropping hail, torrential rain, and tornadoes everywhere. Got off work at 6 this morning and walked out into snow flurries.

I'm low on loaded stuff for the .38, but long on components. A brief session at the loading bench should set me right to give it a go.....

Looking at custom grips for the Model 18....

Sweet combo, a Combat Masterpiece (Model 18) and an Military & Police (Model 10), and both pre-82.

Nope. I still have my Model 18. No plans to sell it. Here's a shot of it.

You did real well on the Model 10, for sure. I hadn't realized the 18s were going for much more than you paid, however.

The M10 has more finish left than the one that has resided in my nightstand drawer forever. It does, however. show some serious wear.

I didn't buy it to show it off. It'll have it's place in things around here.

The M18s are all over the place on price. Saw one similar to mine's condition being sold by turnbull priced at just under 800$ Others in like condition are going for whatever a guy can get. Saw several completed auctions for $900 plus in the last few months.

Very nice find, especially the M 18. You're right. The gun was proof fired in Ulm. According to the AI it must have been in 1980.

Thanks EK... Good info, and dovetails with the revolver being made in the 1970s.

Couple of other notes...

The grips on these, while similar are not the same. The bottom edge of the grips on the M10 are radiused, and more comfortable in the hand. I've owned a fair few S&W k frames but never noticed any difference before.
I'll probably have after market grips on both of them soon enough

The ejector rod on the Model 18 needs to be loc-tited. I'll likely get it done this week, but in dis-assembling it I noticed that the revolver is significantly magnetized. Any ideas how or why this came to be?

The round bottom Magna stocks were referred to as “plain clothes” Magnas. I guess the rounded bottom was supposed to hide or draw from concealment easier.

Trivia- the M58 fixed sighted 41 magnum was the only model to wear N frame plainclothes Magnas. If you run across a set that’s what they came on.
