Why not? Instead of aiming at its ass (or right above it), just aim a skinch higher and blast him in the back of the neck or the back of the head. Heck, at only 70 yards I could've killed that deer standing like that with a .22 Hornet. Lights out.

Well the Hornady 150 SST #30303 is now unavailable down here seems the same for 300 savage brass fortunately I was able to pick up the last 100 cases the store had.

I have a box of Hornady 150 grn interlock projectiles on the way so will try them, probably jumping the gun haven't heard back from my smith on repairing my rem 600.

On the SST I just drove 4 hours return trip up he mountains to bick up a large sambar doe my mate shot yesterday evening a big girl and bang flop with these bullets from my old 99F

I've crushed some nice bucks with hand loaded 150 grain silver tips out of the 300 Sav. Full confidence.

It was a few years ago, but if I remember correctly, he was moving his head up and down, so I took the only shot that was consistent in the few seconds I had to make a shot.

Getting a little O/T, especially since I've only taken one deer with one of my 300's.I think anyone who hunts should be a good shot. Not great. I think I'm a good shot, not great. I shot Hi Power when I was 12 and 13 in Military Academy, with an M1. I've long forgotten most of that stuff. My first pig hunt the guide told me if he used his 243 he shot them behind the ear. He said the 250 looked like a 243, go for a behind the ear shot. When he came to get me and my pig I joked how I had to wait 20 minutes for that pig to present me with a "behind the ear" shot. The next year I joked if he had trained the pigs to give me a good shot. He came back with, "why don't you just shoot it in the eye?" I had 3 nice pigs come out, so I waited for an easy eye shot. One of my cousins crew asked why my guys shot at such small targets. I said to hit a small target, you have to aim at a small target. That year I waited for a little spike to lift his head, and I shot him in the eye. The one constant in those three shots, I waited for the perfect target. In MD and WV there are enough deer and liberal bag limits, there is no need to take a rushed iffy shot. If I have a standing deer at 50 yards, with it's eye exposed, that's my target. If it's walking or all I can see well is a behind the shoulder, that's my target. I just don't take bad shots anymore. The thought of a Coyote eating a dear alive because I took a bad shot bothers me.

Thought i'd throw something from a forum over here in regards to Speer 130grn varmint, a lot of blokes using these in 308's and are very happy they say the bullet is way stronger than a varmint bullet goats, pigs, fallow & red deer all pretty much bang flops. These might be worth me trying if my rem 600 ever gets back to me, one does not ring and nag a gun smith its sure to get you pushed back down the line
