The topic in the Hunter's Campfire about Pilot Callsigns got me thinking.

At our camp, we all go out with FRS walkie talkies. It's been that way since the beginning. Cellphone service was next to non-existant when we moved in. We all use Call Signs.

Me? I am Earth. This stems from the fact that at the beginning it was just me, KYHillChick and the kids. I'd go out and bag a buck and call back to the house:
"Earth calling Girlfriend. Earth calling Girlfriend. Bring the truck. I got one."

As the kids started to hunt, they all got callsigns. #2 son is Moose. #3 is Angus. When #1 Granddaughter showed up, she got the call sign "Mooselette." #2's Girlfriend is "MooseGirl."

When I brought on my best friend, I asked him what he wanted for a Call Sign. He answered "Supercore." He used to sell computers for NCR and Honeywell. One of his customers gave him the name back when NCR was trying to bring out its answer to IBM's Core Memory. They never did get it going right-- true vaporware. He had to keep promising that SuperCore was due in the next quarter for years.

When we added a new guy a few years ago, we had to give him a Call Sign. By now it had become part of the ritual. We eventually voted him into camp as "Remnar". He was truly the buckles Youper. He had grown up in Michigan and he'd gone his first ten years without getting a deer. We gave his wife the name Moondance. Well, if you haven't seen Escanaba in the Moonlight, it wouldn't make any sense.

The last call sign was given to our neighbor. He lives over on the next ridge, down in a holler. Getting him on cellphone is impossible, but we can reach him on our walkie-talkies and invite him over. He shows up so much we gave him the call sign "Blacksmith." That's what he does down in his holler.

We have good cell so we text these days but prior we had radios. Everyone had a call sign. Boarmaster, Grey Squirrel , night stalker, Possum, woodchuck , Old bull and Poop. There were others but I cant think of them. I like texting as its silent.

My son in law’s friend set up his two game cameras. My son in law was surprised his cameras were set up as Little Dick one and Little Dick two.

was my Dad's call sign, he sold ammo to the police depts in the early 80's before the wonder nines showed up. He had his own business making ammo and selling.
