Thalidomide was developed by a German company and sold as safe for pregnant women. It turned out that they hadn't tested it on pregnant women. In fact, the pregnant wife of one of their own people tried it and had a baby with no ears months before it was released to the public. The coverup went on for years after it was pulled off the market. The human carnage was catastrophic and even until now they haven't openly admitted what they did or made restitution. The official FDA report showed 17 Thalidomide babies in the US. About half used samples handed out in the US and the rest said they ordered it from Europe. Some say there were a lot more than 17. A former manager of a local credit union here in Soldotna was one. Somehow, I suspect you are right on the numbers. I'm thinking 17 with a bunch of zeros. Just thinking about it, I've seen a number of folks with the flipper hands. Almist all would have been born in the same time frame. From NY Slime Estimates of how many American babies were affected by thalidomide have varied. A lead F.D.A. investigator said in a 1964 report that 17 infants had been harmed. Investigators in the agency’s Cincinnati office later pursued reports of about 40 births associated with one obstetrician, Dr. Ray O. Nulsen of Cincinnati. Dr. Nulsen, who had been one of the chief doctors in the Richardson-Merrell trial, declined to cooperate, according to F.D.A. reports. The agency later said it could not verify that number, but found that he had delivered at least five malformed infants. Wikipedi implies thousands. Going to bed- you go look. IIRC, one source says 10 to 20K US women took the drug. Hard to believe "only" 17 babies were deformed, if that is true. Many more in Germany and elsewhere. The Jab appears not to be the first time widespread field trials were imposed on an unsuspecting public by drug companies, perhaps in conspiracy with the medical profession.
