I'm waiting on Easter dinner to be ready so I can strap on the feed bag and was thinking. I don't shoot over 400 yards EVER.... even my spots for ground squirrels I only shoot max 300 or so do to terrain.... I have an 8" gong at 400yds at the range I can shoot when I feel like it but I just don't shoot "long" range.
I have a pro chrony and a magneto speed that I goof around with when working up new loads but do I really "need" them.... I still go by what the brass tells me.... I don't need to figure drops or twist turrets so does it even matter? I can't think of a situation where I had some crazy high chronograph speed but my brass was ok or I didn't have any other tell tale signs of over pressure telling me to back off.....so other than being able to "quote" your speed at the coffee shop is it really needed? My grandfather loaded for over 60 years and never used one?

Just shootin the chit on a Sunday afternoon 🤘🏻

Sell them. Doesn't sound like it does anything for you.

It sounds like you are happy doing what you're doing. Would it help if you knew exactly how fast your bullets are leaving the barrel? Probably not. You have the toys, but don't use them much.

It's alright to be happy and not fuss with things you don't need.

On this, and other boards, they call it loonyism. A loony is defined as:

1. Extremely foolish or silly.
2. Mentally deranged; crazy.
3. Crazy; insane; lunatic; mentally unsound.

You are none of these.

You have reached the state of nirvana. You are joyful and happy. Run with it!

I've had an Oehler 33 for over 35 years. I don't often shoot over 300 yards but I would not work up a load without it. Sometimes I load near max depending on the application and primers and brass are unreliable for determining pressure. I got over bragging about velocity a long time ago.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

They are very handy for working up loads. On my pact pro xp, one of my sensors got moved an inch in on the rail. That meant all my readings were reading 200 feet high. Once I figured it out, I moved it back to the spot the sensor was supposed to be and velocities were back where they were supposed to be. Was kinda bummed, I was pretty happy with 3k from the 127lrx out of the CM and a 22" barrel.
