Any of you guys ever used the big 338 bullets on elk or bears? I can't find 300 grain Elite Hunters. I can find Scenars and OTM Bergers. The 300 grain Scenar is particularly accurate in my rifle. Just not sure how they do on game. 2000-2100 fps impact velocity.

Hi Dennis, Broz comments on performance of 300 OTM on game several years ago. From LRH: We took two elk today with the Berger 300gr Hybrid OTM from my .338 Lapua mag. Bullet performance was pretty much identical with 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" exits. First was at 825 Yards and a rib cage shot. Impact velocity was 1966 fps. Exit was about 1 1/4" Second was a bedded cow at 816 yards. Impact velocity was 1975 fps. Cow was slightly facing away. Entrance was in the crease behind the near shoulder. Exit was far shoulder. I was kind of surprised that the exit was only 1 1/2" or so. But this exit is deceiving. Note the bone fragments on the hair around the hole. Inside was total destruction and the exit shoulder was a loss. Elk died quick and clean. I am pleased. There are more results within this thread: https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/berger-230-and-300-otm-hybrid-terminal-results.80283/page-2Ross

Not a lot of things that I am 100% in on, but for me the Sierra 300gr SMK has no equal, others might have bested it's BC but for ultimate performance in every condition........Accuracy, and DRT......only choice !!!!!!

just as a side note, I have 6 gongs of various sizes and all are made of Hardox500. supposed to be about the same as AR500 only made in Sweden. from my experience Hardox500 has been just a bit harder and tougher than AR500..... I have fired 10's of thousands of bullets at these gong's and not even a scratch let alone a dent with 2 exceptions......
I have a hole in two of my gong's and both were made with 300gr Scenars, both went through with ZERO expansion !!!!!!! True armor piercing bullets !!!!!!!!!
I know many here love Scenars as hunting bullets but the 338 300gr are an exception

I used the Sierra MatchKing in my .308 on Coyotes, and watched to many of them run away. A 150 gr., soft nose drops them right where they were standing. I am not hunting for hides, just to reduce the numbers.
