Several years ago I viewed the web site of a backpack company (emphasizing frames, perhaps they bought pack bags??) whose external frames were advertised as being ultra-heavy duty. Rather than using cylindrical tubular aluminum for frames, they used contour-formed square tubing that included a formed bottom shelf.

My recollection is that this small family-owned company was located in Idaho or immediately surrounding area.

Please identify the company, plus web site URL.

Square tubing would also make them extra-heavy.

You’re describing “Bull-Pacs”. They are made in Idaho.

I’ve owned a couple, and still have a “spare” one. I’ve packed out a couple dozen elk using them over the years. They are indeed tough, but the suspension sucks azz and use materials from 40 years ago.

Much better options available today imho.
