Can anyone tell me what type of powder Lapua factory uses in their 338 Magnum?

More than likely Lapua uses their own proprietary blend, as for myself I use RL25 and H1000

Hello Mr. Anchor.... Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that.....I was hoping the answer would be a regular powder from Vihtavuori or IMR.

You may want to look at RL33 as well.

Can anyone tell me what type of powder Lapua factory uses in their 338 Magnum? Compare Vihtavuori data to the claimed specs for the factory ammo and see if there are any likely suspects.

Can anyone tell me what type of powder Lapua factory uses in their 338 Magnum? Wondering why you want to know the exact powder that comes in factory ammo when there are many options out there??? Do you have access to load manuals? I just bought a bunch of AA3100 for real cheap, and that is what is going to be stoking the brass of my buddies 338LM.. Is there a real reason you need the exact powder they use in that ammo? Why does it seem like many of you guys are too damn afraid to work up you own loads???? Just an honest question here^^^
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Mr. BSA1917hunter,, I will answer your question. However, I am not to lazy to work-up a load....that is what I am planning to do. A friend gave me 35 rounds of factory 250gr 338 Lapua Mag...I don't own a rifle chambered for that round. I do own a Weatherby 340. So, I am going to pull the bullets from the Lapua brass ,,,thinking to use them in my 340 Roy. I was thinking maybe I could also use the powder. I have pulled 2 and each round had 95.2 grains of powder. I use IMR 7828 for the 340 with 225 or 250 grain pills..so, I think I will start with 78 or 79 gr of the Lupua powder....work up from there. I never load to the max....always try to be safe. So, that is my answer ...thanks.
