I've decided I'm not going to SBR my pistols. So I'm playing around with some different sling methods with just a pistol buffer tube.

Here is a 10.5" 5.56. I have the rimfire adaptor in it for some of this training/experimenting. This also has a Griptilian pistol grip, Troy rear sight, and Strike Industries short pistol buffer. Overall length is 24.5" including the muzzle device.

This target was 25 yards, doing some rapid engagements. In the sling method used here, I'm pushing forward creating tension with the sling. The buffer tube is against my cheek. It's pretty solid.









Anybody else working on pistol techniques minus the brace?

Yeah even though I SBR’d a Lower, I built a pistol lower for waiting on my form 1 to be approved. I used an end plate with a QD socket on it and run a Proctor sling in about the same way you are, cheek on tube and all. It’s better than I thought it would be and makes a good truck gun when I go out of state.

I still prefer the SBR but this is the best way I’ve come up with for a pistol.

My thinking was to keep it a pistol to avoid the paper drill, required documents, and as TWR stated already, travel reasons.

This setup only saves about 6" overall length compared to my 14.5" pinned/welded carbines, but it's enough to make it more maneuverable in a vehicle. The Strike Force short buffer tube saves 2" off the standard tube.

Anyhoo, something else to play with and another tool in the toolbox.

Purchased the part/s to be able to keep it 2 point sling friendly.

When I removed the brace, a sling mounting point was removed.

I was going to order an endplate with sling attachment. When I saw that the Strike Ind. short buffer had a QD socket in the back, I figured I try that out. I'll likely put QD socket up front as well.

I looked at both options and opted to stay with a known tube and buffer since I have a can in jail too. I have a little bit of experience with regular buffers and just wasn’t sure if I could swap things around as easy if I needed to.

Has there been any significant updates regarding the brace? Waffling seems to be the only thing them bastards are good at.

I don't know of anything really changing of yet. I would imagine it will require a case to go up to the Supreme Court before it gets shoved up the ATF's azz.

You should review therestrictions as written for rifle caliber pistols in reference to sights.

Instead of assigning homework, why not just give some cliff notes?

Without the brace, there is no restriction on sights that I'm aware of but I'd like to hear the cliff notes as well.

It's the drop-in 22 BCG from CMMG, and Black Dog magazines.

It's not going to win any target matches, about 2" at 25 yards, better with the 60gr Aguila. It's good enough to get in some practice drills without too much cost or noise.

25yard targets, not too bad with Federal Target, and the 60gr Aguila,


I've only shot it in 1/7 barrels. I need to try it in one of my 1/9 barrels, it might just do better.

Thanks, PSA has them on sale for $169 with 3 mags so I went ahead and ordered one. I figure I’ll build a dedicated upper for the SBR or might just put it on the pistol lower and do the same, get cheap practice.

I built a dedicated upper with a CMMG barrel a while back. A 16" carbine. I was kind of disappointed that the dedicated 22lr upper was only slightly more accurate than the conversion unit. I still have that barrel, but it's on standby in the spare parts box. Rebuilt the upper receiver back into a 5.56 upper.
