I thought this was lost many years ago during one of my many military moves. My dad died last month and going through his storage, I found a box. Finally opened it. And here is, by far, the biggest buck I've ever killed. 1998 I believe, home on leave from Japan.

Funny how hard it is to score without ears.

Front forks are 60% of score so off the cuff I’d guess a 175 frame (deep back forks helps) and about 19” of extra if we are going gross

Pretty cool you found it. That’s a buck to be proud of. Was it a fun hunt?

Post up what it scores at some point

A buck like that, while home on leave is one of the best and most memorable!

That is a helluva nice deer!

Looking at the skull plate, he's 29 to 30 wide and with the extras and deep forks, he's easily in the 80s. I think if you taped him, you'd be surprised with the gross score. That's not a good buck, that's a great buck. Congrats.

I'd guess mid '80's as well. Regardless, a fantastic buck.

Good morning sir, please accept my condolences on the loss of your father.

Congratulations on taking that grand buck and for sure for finding him again.

I'm the farthest thing from an expert on numeric mulie scores, but if I saw that thing running around on the mountain behind the house, I'd likely describe it as mid 180's at very least.

As others have said - for sure up here in our section of BC - that's a very, very nice buck.

All the best.

Pictures are hard but gross score I'd say it blows right by 190".

Need some scale or perspective but pretty short in the front with several inches of deductions. Obviously a pig of a buck no matter the score! I'd guess 190's-200.

Looking at the skull plate and the double recliner/couch thing it's laying on, that gives a guy a pretty good idea. On the hoof, double deep forks, some extras, not broke, flip the safety off and bust him. It's a next level mule deer for sure.

Nobody with half a brain gives a crap about deducts. Gross 'em up, that's what they are.

JGRaider;
Good afternoon, pretty much evening down in West Texas I see, hopefully the day went at least somewhat according to plan for you and you're all well down there.

Regarding the whole B&C typical vs non-typical topic, while I did learn how to do it well enough to measure for our little fish, game and gun club way back when, the Victorian ideal of symmetry never made sense to me.

Better said, I did in fact understand it, so it did make sense to me JG - but I didn't agree with it.

For me whatever an animal added up to - that is to say gross score - was a more meaningful number to me.

I thought that God and nature with all it's genetics and habitat had added up to a total sum, so who was I to start deducting? wink

As you can well imagine, some in the club did not share my view on numeric totals - not whatsoever or even a wee bit... laugh

Anyways, sometimes I'm not too, too far out guessing a sum total score and sometimes I'm so far off I'm not sure why I made the guess.

Still many if not most of us humans tend to reduce thing to a numeric value in order to speak to each other in terms we understand, or so I've come to believe in the main.

All the best to you all.

Dwayne

Hard to tell with a pic. Looks light on mass, but with the trash. I’m guessing gross around the 205 area. Maybe a little better than that. Damn incredible deer.

OK. That model 70 looks tiny inside that rack. He's 200". Those back forks are kick ass. And the width. 30" inches easy. Very impressive buck.

Not meaning to be one of those guys" but that buck is nowhere near 200" Maybe closer to 150" than 160". Decent trophy though.

I don't know squat about scores but putting the rifle in there adds some perspective. By thunder what a whopper!

I'd say 200 ballpark. My best is a hair over 195 and I'd say yours is a mite better, maybe 210. Hard to tell. He's a dandy anyway. I'd get a cape and have a shoulder mount done if I were you.

Condolences for your loss

Mass in severely lacking. The measurement that counts for score is the widest inside point on front beam. He flares decent should still be a good measurement

Guess I need to find a B&C scorer locally. I'd never enter him, but I would like to know. I had a caribou that "made book", but that one WAS stolen while in military non-temp storage along with all my other Alaskan trophies. I'm STILL pissed about that.

Bufaf: Good for you on re-finding and originally harvesting that wonderful trophy!
Could you hang a 24" ruler on the eyeguards of that rack and I'll get back to you.
Again good for you.

I don't know what he'll score but that buck qualifies as what I call "a wall-hanger". I never get tired of looking at big mule deer.

Way past the best estimates. Congratulations man, be proud of that one. Heck of a buck! In my mind he's 243 5/8 which is super impressive. He grew them, count them up. The heck with deductions.

I'd like anybody to explain to me how a buck that scores 225 with 5" in deductions so it ends up at 220, is bigger than this buck if it never grew those extra 18 5/8 inches to start with?
