Many thanks for posting this, shinbone.
A beautiful rendition of my favorite song.

The Band has been #1 on my list since being given an album in 1978. Ain't about to change now.

I can't pick a favorite but both make my playlist, for sure. The Weight is one of my favorite songs. GD

What is it about The Weight that's so good for you? Please educate me as to what I'm missing.

The Byrds were great. I could never get into The Bland.

The Byrds.

The Band had a few songs I liked but they didn't interest me enough to listen to all their offerings. The Byrds OTOH had my ear from the get go. Like most others, I don't like everything they did, but really like some of it.

The Band. Watched "The Last Waltz" concert video a few weeks ago. Enjoyed it. They had some good and IMO not so good guest appearances with them. Thought "The Weight" ( I don't know exactly what what that's all about either) and the one where they were basically backup for Van Morrison were the best cuts. Based on the audience and The Band's response Van knocked it out of the park.

I seem to have lost the ability to post youtube videos. I copy them, hit the proper box above, and when I paste, it says an error occurred. What am I doing wrong? (Note: poster is one of the surviving dinosaurs from the distant past.)

Gram Parsons doesn't get the recognition he so sorely deserves. Kudos to the Campfire that so many here still listen to him. For better or worse, the modern country music you hear today, started with Gram Parsons.

And for better or worse some started with SnoopDog. But that’s a story for another day re how definition of “country” has been bludgeoned. But I get your analogy.

Just copy and paste the YouTube URL directly. Don't use the video drop down assist.

An esteemed member who chooses not to wade into the mire of the 'fire much anymore requested that I post this to put all other versions to shame.

Like any other song it is a combination of the music and lyrics I find pleasing. I like the stories of each character supposedly based on people the band members knew.

The live performance with the Staples was great and I like Danko's singing the fourth verse. Pops Staple sings the smoothest third verse ever and Rick comes in like your drunk uncle (paraphrasing something I once read).

You cannot treat it like a math equation, just enjoy.
