I kinda think so. I don't know anyone who's bought one lately. Is it the wrong choice? Hardly. Are there better choices? Oftentimes, yes.

Only thing I'd take over a 7 mag is a 30-06 for big game. I love the 270 win, but when a guy needs hellfire out of his barrel, I'm talking 165 grains of bullet or better and 60 to 70 grains of powder, hard to beat a 7 or 06. The 6.5s and 6.8 westerns, and whatever. It's all been done decades ago. Then it brings us back around to a 30-06, 7mm Rem., .243 win., ect.

If a guy wants to launch a 120gr .284 bullet at 3,550fps, a 140gr at 3,300, or a 160gr at 3,050 from a 24" factory rifle, the 7mmRM is a good fit. Brass is easy to find, twist is generally fast enough for heavies if you want, and an H&H length action like a 700 will offer a good amount of COAL to play with, should such things matter to you. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the chambering, if you desire that level of performance.

My most recent 7 mag, haven’t decided if I’m going to shoot it, probably not that many unfired Golden Anniversary rifles out there, finally coughed up for one.

It's your rifle, but I don't buy them to look at.

Man, that beautiful.

I’d have to shoot it, but would be really careful where and how often.

Never owned one, never will. A .280 has been my 7mm for 50 years.

Of all the rifles I bought, sold, or traded in the last 20 years, without fail it was more difficult to get rid of a 7mm mag than any other belted magnums.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

It was my first BG rifle and I don’t know that I’d ever be without one. Pretty versatile cartridge in my book.

I don’t see this one ever going anywhere.

All said and done...?

A brass cased std. pressure 62K psi. short action .277 Fury (6.8×51mm), with a 1:8 twist, pushing 150-165 gr. high BC bullets in excess of 2800 fps...?

... will be the death of many modern chamberings, as well as all the 7mm offerings.

It is the new std. American Military caliber and cartridge, in it's high-pressure form.

And should be "all the rage" even as a std. pressure offering.

I was poking around on Rem Arms and noticed that most of the rifles they are currently chambering in 7 mag are being produced with a 1/8 twist.

Is 1/8 enough to breath some life into it?

I'll be keeping my 1:9.25 twist 700KS because I like it. But also, did just get a 1:8 twist 7mm PRC to dip into longer range shooting using the longer, heavier bullets.

friend of mine's father went on an elk hunt back in the early 80s and bought a brand new Weatherby Mark V in 7RM, it was custom shop or something like that. Best looking rifle stock you had ever seen, deep pretty bluing, etc. He shot an elk on the second day of the hunt with it. About a year later he felt silly for spending all of that money on a rifle and decided to sell it. Took to a few gun shows and was insulted at the offers he was given, and several guys didnt even want to look at it. He finally sold it several years later for close to what he paid for it. I think it was more the glamourous looking rifle that most guys didnt want rather than the 7RM caliber.

I also lack a clear understanding of this post, but somehow found myself agreeing.🤔
