I have 7 pounds of Norma 205 and I am wanting to get some Quick Load data/info for a Tikka T3 in 7mm08 with the factory barrel that is 22.5" and I believe its a 9.25 twist. 120,140,160 and 175 grain bullets, I am think N 205 is to slow for the 120 & 140 grainers but will see.

I hope someone can help me out here. This powder was manufactured for Speedy Gonzales under the new name SG 205 about 25 years ago. I understand its the same powder as N 205.

N205 is not listed in Quickload V3.9

N205 was the super powder of its day and produced some really great velocities but it was hard to duplicate lot to lot consistency. It was replaced by Norma MRP which was pretty good but it never reached the cult status that N205 did. I now cringe to think what some of the pressures were that were loaded with 205.

I was afraid it would not be listed.

Thanks

N 205 was supposedly THE powder for some of the "overbore" cartridges in the 70s and 80s before Retumbo, Magnum, 7828 and some of the 20-series Reloder powders came on the scene. I wasn't paying too much attention when it was discontinued since I didn't feel like I needed it at the time. It was the featured powder in one issue of the Wolfe magazines, so you may find the write-up in Propellant Profiles archives or in the Rifle or Handloader DVDs. I don't know if the 7 mm/08 was tested with 205.

The parent .308 brass usually does its best work without going to powders in the 4831 burn rate neighborhood, but few reloaders will allow seven pounds of powder to sit unused on the shelf in these times. You may be able to work a trade within your gun club. Somebody in this Campfire group probably has some useful info if they happen to see your post, or they might have access to one of the above sources. Member Wader has posted some pet loads in the stickies, so it may help to go there and look.

Good luck and please report results if N 205 works for you.

Speer #8 has a bunch of N205 data, that said if you value all your working parts and rifle make fertilizer out of it. Norma recalled and discontinued due to numerous SEE events which means kaboom. Very unpredictable and dangerous powder.

Was this similar to Hodgdon H205? I recall my father putting together some sporty loads with H205.

No, H205 was surplus just like everything Hodgdon sold at that point. Reason for H being discontinued was it ran out about 79-80. It was faster than N205 which was replaced by MRP. Looked at some of the old data for H and some did seem a bit sporty.😁
