Getting ready for fall season in a couple weeks, and was reviewing what calls I need. I've never been any good with a mouth call, so for Kee keeps I've used an old referee' s whistle with the pea removed. My quest for the last few years is to become a better caller with my trumpets , especially gobbler yelps. Some days I sound great other days not so much. Only if I had consistent fall calling conquered. What's your go-to fall call ?

I'm a fiction call guy all year. In the fall I prefer a David Hallorans Crystal Mistress, a Pecker Wrecker Psycho Hen (titanium I think), or a couple different ceramic surface pots. I use the friction calls for both gobbler / jake yelps, and kee kees.
I haven't used the whistle trick. In fact I've never heard of it. I'll have to look into that

Kelljp, how do you remove the pea from a referee’s whistle….got one around somewhere but haven’t tried to take the pea out?

The one I have is a "Nobel" whistle, I think they were made in England, it had a cord ball in it that I took a knife and cut out.

Long box, cedar... kee kee's like a champ. I can use a diaphragm also and often do but I really like using the paddle box call more.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

If kee kee it's just as easy to use you own lips and whistle at em.
The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

I am able to get some decent kee kees out of my Primos box calls. But my Dave Halloran long box seems made for it. I'll take that with my this fall.

Love box calls, only problem I have is remembering to chalk them up before I hit the woods. I've been playing with a glass friction call, seen a gentleman doing Kee kees running a W pattern. Works pretty good if I can remember to ease up on the pressure on the striker at the right time.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that.......for as many boxes as I have....... I don't own one of his. Yet.
