I have recently started reloading long gun shells and am having a blast. I have been fortunate enough to get some partial packs of various weight and types of .223 bullets. Seems as though a prolific reloader passed and the local gun store has some mixed goodies.
I have found that these Speer 50 Gr TNT shoot just as well as match bullets behind Varget. They apparently have as much bang on woodchucks as nosler or Hornady ballistic tips. Anybody have their 2 cents worth of opinion on the Speers? The price is right, 85$ for 1000.
Any pet loads out there?? I have tries AA2230, Blc-2, and Varget.

Also, to those in the know. What powder is best to reload both .223 and 22-250. I am getting a new Savage with the Accutrigger in 2 weeks!
Favorite 22-250 bullets and loads?? Shooting paper and later chucks.

I just went round and round with a 223 of mine. I found that H4895 worked well with the 50rg bullets, I finally settled on TAC. I like the TAC powder and have used it in a few different rifles. It has about the same burn rate as 4895. I have found that it settles down when I use a Mag primer and get toward the top loads.
In the 22-250 I have always had good luck with RL15 and 50 or 55 gr bullets. If you are already loading Varget that should be a good load as well. Not the speedest but alway a good 22-250 powder is 4064.
Good luck

.223 Varget 50gr bullets...I would use 23.0-26.0 grs whatever shoots best in your rifle.

I get the best performance out of my 223 varmiter with the following load.
Nosler 50 grain Bt's
Winchester brass
Federal GM205M primers
27.7 grains of W748
W748 is these best powder that I have found for the 223 but others may work better in your rifle.

I picked up a pound of Benchmark today and am gonna give it a whirl. I have heard great things about this powder and will try some loads out to see for myself.

Funny I am trying new powders as BLC-2 and Varget are giving me 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups out of my stock VLS .223 with a crappy scope. I don't believe I am looking for the Holy Grail as much as I am enjoying different powders.

Any suggestions for Benchmark with 50 Gr TNT in .223 or 100 Grainers in 7mm-08?

If you're looking for a powder to use in both the 22-250 and 223, I would use W-W 748.
The most accurate load for an old Ruger 22-250 that I had was 748 powder with a 50 gr. bullet and mag. primer.
The most accurate load for my # 7, 223 is 748 with 40 gr. bullet and mag. primer.
